Muahahaha wrote: » 1874 & bazz thanks for the replies. Reason Im keen on a 09 diesel is for the cheap tax- I am already taxing & insuring 2 motorbikes so I want to keep costs low for a car I am only going to use 2 days a week and it would kill me to be paying 700 odd in tax for something sitting up most of the time. My intention is to own this car for around 18 months before upgrading to something else I will then drive 5-6 days a week. So for now I wanna get on the road as cheap as possible and Ill upgrade later and spend more money then. I came across these two - 09 Ford Focus estate, 130kms, asking 1,750https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/09-ford-focus-nct-19-cheap-tax/20245201 and 09 Ford Focus hatchback, 152k miles, asking 2,800https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/09-ford-focus-1-6-tdci-econetic/20430451?campaign=3 Is there any good reason not to pursue cars like the above? I know my milage is not quite diesel territory but as said I dont want to be shelling out on the high tax of a petrol.

As for the 1.6 TDCi Focus, you could not have picked a worse diesel engine when it comes to not taking miles, age or neglect well. I've a feeling you will be spending a lot more on maintaining either car than you will save on a bit of motor tax. I'd rather spend a bit more on something like this:https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/kia-ceed-1-4-petrol-2009-fresh-nct/19060516

There are plenty of far rougher examples looking for 5/6/700 bucks. Anyone looking for a reliable and easy run family motor could do far worse than this. I'd still prefer to be picking it up for closer to €1k..!!
