I never do the lottery in the bookies and only occasionally with official lottery machines but this is interesting reading

I know a couple of people who won a few thousand on the bookies lottery.

One got 2k, the other 8k.

Odds are likely a lot better at the bookies, but at the same time, you'll never win a few million.

Costs about €5 to do 2 lines with the plus. If I was going to gamble €5 euro, I would do a football accumulator.

The bookies lotto allows you to put on a euro or two and you get back a decent amount if you get 2-3 numbers.

Lotto have completely out priced themselves

That isn't a like for like bet.

Bookies bet is one bet of getting 3 numbers out of 3

Lotto is any 3 numbers out of 6 (multiple times) plus you also get 2 numbers and the bonus ball (multiple times), 3 numbers and the bonus ball (multiple times), 4 numbers of 6 (multiple times), 4 numbers and the bonus ball (multiple times), 5 numbers out of 6 (multiple times), 5 numbers and the bonus ball (multiple times) & of course the jackpot all for the price of one bet.

It's not as it sounds but. In the lotto you get seven numbers overall and if you pair three then you get a minimal payout, but in the bookies you only have three numbers to begin with.

I have a little system.
I pick two numbers, say 2 and 34. Then I put them with all the 20's. So I do 1 euro trebles I.e. 2-34-20, 2-34-21, 2-34-22 etc.
10 trebles for 10 euro. You could click a few times in the same bet with this system @ 625 euro per treble out of the first 6 numbers drawn out.

It is as good as it sounds, any of the bookies offer much better odds and thus chances for a better return (ROI).
Using the 'hotpick' type at the bookies also means you can (if you want) choose from a pool of 7 balls (includes the bonus).

I've calculated the best % method and game type.

It is the following: 3 balls lotto.ie (main draw, 6 balls) which offers 86.33% of actual true odds.
Thus a €1 hotpick on 3 balls (from 6) returns €701.

You can also stake as low as €0.25 if you choose, instead of the regular fixed €2/3 shop tickets.
You can also avail of the 'law of large numbers' to (slightly) increase you chances by P+0.05 or so.

They weren't laughing when I collected 1,875 last year and 1,250 on two other occasions.
Once the two numbers I do came out but without any 20's but that's the luck of the draw.
I only do it on a Sat for an interest and it's only a tenner.

If you spent €2/3 on regular ticket and won 3 numbers on the previous regular draw you'd have just €9 winnings to spend today.

If you went with the 'hotpick3' method you'd have €701 for per €1 spend.
Yes the odds are slightly higher as you only have 3 balls of which to target from,
but the odds certainly aren't x77.88 times higher.

Sure you have the chance of winning more with shop ticket, but even then
the biggest prize was 5balls on Sat, and that paid just 2.5k.

The only guaranteed '1m prize' type any hotpick type lottos is the uk's EM-Hotpick
Thus, you get 1m GBP for getting 5balls (no stars) in the Euromillions-HP for 1.50gbp.

You can. It's entirely possible. I know plenty of people who have.

In terms of Lotto there's no edge tho so you probably won't for Lotto.

People do the lotto in the hope of winning the jackpot. You can't do that doing it in the bookies.

It's mich better odds for everything below the big prizes, but you're foregoing the shot at them.
You won't be retiring on your winnings from the bookies.

Playing the lottery, or the equivalent in the bookies, is a fool's game either way. You would be better off putting your money in a jar and celebrating your 'win' at the end of the year.

I'm actually ahead for the 4 years I've been doing it.
Overall with time I will lose. You never see a bookie on a bicycle.
