United 777 to Newark

Hi I’am flying to Newark next week and I got a call from the travel agent that tickets we’re ready for collection, while I was there she mentioned that their is no entertainment service on this flight.

Just wondering if this is true? Thanks in advance

Yes no IFE, I believe they possibly stream to devices so download United app. Also make sure you download some films or tv from Sky or Netflix or elsewhere.

I was on that flight in February and there was IFE.

United typically use a domestic config 777 on this route with 10 seats across instead of the traditional 9, this does not have IFE, but should have US domestic WiFi on board so if you download the United and GoGo app ahead of time you can watch some content

You might get lucky, but sadly the US airlines typically send out pretty clapped out hardware to Dublin (American being a noticeable exception 787 and 330)

You were very lucky then because everyone that I have heard from says their flights on the 777 didn’t have screens.

I worked it on it most mornings the last few weeks of October, definitely was no seat back screens.

Why would you use a travel agent to book a flight in 2018?

Did you have to go into an office and collect actual tickets?

How much extra did this cost?

Didn't think high street travel agents existed anymore TBH.

Still a few around benefit is the ability to pay the cost off over a period of time rather than lump sum up front.

I was on that flight in September. There is no IFE but you can stream to your device. Make sure you have the United app downloaded prior to take off.

Your device then clips into the part where a screen would be on the seat back of the seat in front of you.

WiFi died midway across the Atlantic so we were not able to see anything for the last 3 hours. Managed to get 5000 air miles for my trouble though.

So download some stuff before you go.

This service is a domestic 777. Most birds are 20 years old and look it. Lower your expectations and still expect to be disappointed!!!

If you want a package disney or universal studios tickets + hotels + flights for you + OH + kids then trav agent BY FAR the best unless you want to customise it which in fairness they can do for you + travel insurance + transfers + car rental

1850 euro with EI return to NYC in seat 3k is not far off experience wise what many airlines offer for F.

United's offering from Ireland is very poor, American and Delta are way ahead

I flew a United Domestic 777-200 between Newark and Houston and it was superior to their 757 and 767 offerings. It had the older cloth seats which were nicer than the faux vinyl on the other two. I flew 44 hours in total with United in the last month and it was fine, mainly managed by own bizarre ability to sleep on planes which has made me a long haul specialist. I only watched one movie on the 767 but when you fly with the likes of Emirates or Singapore everything else seems bad in comparison.

I got that seat once to LAX, completely agree, it was excellent.

Also got 2A to SFO another time, not quite as good but still excellent.

I've gone back to using travel agents for booking holidays in the past two years. Easier than trawling through airline sites and I've found the prices from the travel agents much the same as what's available online a lot of the time.

Plus you can pay them in Cash, they are very popular with construction lads and other cash economy earners. A family holiday with the wife and two kids in July might run €1,500 to €2,000, recycling that through an account to pay for a holiday would attract a lot of tax, so far cheaper to pay a travel agency because even if they are a little more expensive than doing things online it will work out far cheaper than paying the tax on any cash jobs etc.

I’ve flown United to Newark on a 757 and 777 and both had backseat monitors...all be it last time was 2 years ago. Found the service good at the time and I prefer Newark to JFK for access to Manahattan.

Flying next year from DUB to JFK with Delta. Never flown delta before...do they offer a good service?

Delta has improved a lot in recent years, best US carrier out of Ireland

Domestically in the US, Delta would be the best legacy carrier, but Jetblue would be the best
