I was working it out, a site said it went from €8 per 25kg bag to €16. I would guess a typical bag needs 400g of potatoes. There will be a decrease after peeling and increase after frying as they take on oil. This would mean about a 13cent increase.

Lots of places took the piss with the tax on sugar drinks too, upping the price of all cans (diet or full sugar) by well over the tax amount.

yes, meant to mention them, they still have several good deals going too, you get 10% off many things if you order online, for collection or delivery. The one in ballyogan too (which has some differences on the menu). They did have some really good daily deals but pulled them a few months back.

I wondered the same when I heard Asians were seen before it opened. I did not recognize any of them from Aldos.

No kebab burgers

, menu says they make their own naans for kebabs in house, as they have pizza ovens, Kebabs were 7.20 though. Otherwise most things seem cheaper or the same as liberos & romayos.

There is an article in today's Indo to say that The Organic Supermarket is heading for liquidation. The chances of that retailer coming back to Blackrock are close to zero.

Dunnes and Tesco are never going to compete with the Asian markets on price. What they're selling is convenience - everything under one roof.

e.g. 1 curry sauce I get is 3.59 in tesco but as low as 2.50 in some asian shops.

I have a good memory for prices but I reckon many just think "ah sure its tesco, the prices have got to be OK"

The problem for niche retailers is that as their offerings become popular, the big supermarkets decide to get in on the action and the little guys get squeezed out.

As well as organic food, you can now buy ingredients for Chinese/Thai home cooking in most large supermarkets and Dunnes have a Polish food section.
