mister-auto rip off

Hi,

can anybody explain to me why a Bosch fuel pump 0 580 254 911 is offered for 188.90 Euro on mister-auto.ie and the identical part is being offered for 101.99 Euro on mister-auto.de :eek:?

Unfortunately the German web site refuses to accept an Irish delivery address. After phoning them they refused to proceed with the order from the German web site.

I will definitely NEVER order anything from them again :mad:...

Mr Auto has always provided me a decent service and would buy from them regularly, nothing wrong with their prices.

Having said that, if you're prepared to pay £18 delivery or spend £140 for free delivery, try here. I use them for stuff when I'm in no rush

I need two pumps so they would have charged me 173,82 Euro extra ! Shipping cost from Germany is max. 20 Euro (for them even much cheaper).

So you find that ok

p.s.: thanks for the link, they are AutoDoc, they have hundreds of web sites. Unfortunately they were not able to deliver. Waited over two weeks.

Things are more expensive here than Germany, it's capitalism.
The same part in US will be cheaper still, so check on Amazon.com etc

I am not saying they are right but if asked they would cite costs as the biggest reason. Also it is not that rare if you were to look at other sites that sell stuff with different domain addresses you would see the same.

Parcel motel might be an option? Looks like delivery is 8.45stg + 3.50eur for parcel motel. A bit cheaper at least.

A very good point I forgot!

I generally only order when I have £140 worth of parts or above, always sent to parcel motel. I must emphasise a wait time of about 2 weeks is the usual wait time for delivery; my next order will be soon enough in time for next month

Last order I picked up on a Sunday about 2 weeks ago from the parcel motel Finglas depot for example

Nobody goes parts hunting to be ripped off. I got a set of blueprint 350Z front discs delivered to me for under €70 from Mr Auto, which I think is decent enough.

Yeah, when ever I need parts I just do a search on all the usual suspects and go with the cheapest. Unless I need the parts in a hurry then I'd rather go with Micksgarage. But I've used Mist-auto a tonne and they've often worked out cheapest; they are slow to post though.

Yes, delivered from Germany. I'ts a German company. That they are cheaper than local businesses here is not difficult. But you should check their German web site and then decide if you are still getting a good service and a good deal.

I do not agree that things have to be more expensive in Ireland. But in order to get the prices down the consumers have to act. Consumers make the prices, not the retailers. Of course when the vast majority of the consumers is happy to pay inflated prices (which I read from the replies here) nothing will ever change...

I'll buy them on qp24.de now and I'll have 220 Euro more cash in my pocket.

p.s.: since this morning their price (on the Irish web site) has gone up to 190.22 Euro...

They are a French company. Their parts are dispatched from France (and often slightly further afield), so it's hardly realistic to say that things are more expensive 'here' .....when the very part the OP is looking for may well be dispatched from the same Warehouse for both Irish and German orders.

Oddly I got a cat from mister auto for 160 delivered that Mick's garage had listed at over 400 so swings and roundabouts

I've always found them terrible when I used them. Cheaper prices but often the wrong item shipped out. Out of 5 orders in total 4 were wrong. At least with micksgarage I've always got what I ordered

You need to check the status of your order before they ship it.
It should mention that they are sending something different if they don't have what you ordered.
You get the choice to refuse them but if you don't they go ahead and send alternatives.

Checked everywhere. Wasn't even for sale on German site. Still isn't. Just checked again. Not sure why their product catalogue is so different between countries.

It's been a number of years since I last used them. I don't recall that feature back then. I didn't mention it in my post but when I said wrong item, I didn't mean a similar product. I was sent wiper blades in place of air and oil filters. They were kind enough to let me keep them and refund my money, but they didn't fit my car so meh. That was the last straw with them and I never used them since.

used misterauto plenty of times. usually check a bunch of sites. depends how quickly i want something too.

Used leebmann24.de a few times lately. Cheap but delivery was near 2 weeks including the parcel motel bit. They sell OE bimmer parts.

Your point is completely moot. I don't know why you're having a go at mistauto when the exact same argument could be made that you would pay far less for an oem at a dealership in Germany than you would here.
We pay more for stuff here because we're paid more here.
As has been pointed out, it is just market forces.

We get paid more here? Well... I think you should look at international comparisons of earnings and cost of living. You will find that Ireland is pretty much at the bottom of the list (meaning least amount of money left for spending). This is true for industrial wages, for public servants and certain professions that screw the population (won't go into details here) the situation is the opposite.

And we pay more because consumers here don't compare prices and love to get ripped off. See postings before.

I've just ordered some parts from Micksgarage this weekend and thats the advantage of them, I haven't got to phone up or go into a motor factor and then still have to wait for the parts to arrive requiring another trip into town.

But Micksgarage service and help is woeful, you need to know exactly what you need because if you ask any questions about a part or what it will fit and they haven't got a clue.

This thread is about MISTER-AUTO CHARGING IRISH PEOPLE ALMOST TWICE AS MUCH AS GERMANS for some items. And that delivered from the same warehouse.

And it's not about if mister-auto has a better service or prices than Irish dealers either. That's not very difficult, by the way.

I work in eCommerce (not for any of the sites mentioned in this thread).

There's no point in noticing a price discrepancy like this and then saying "I'm never buying from them again", because every site does things with pricing that can be to the benefit or detriment to a given customer, so you'll eventually run out of places to buy things. Chances are there are other items on the .ie site that are cheaper than on the .de one. If you feel you're charged too much, by all means buy it elsewhere, but don't be surpised if it doesn't happen on the other site for a different product at some point too, and don't be surprised if you miss out on a bargain on Mister Auto on some other product.

The store are charging X in Ireland and Y in Germany because they've calculated that the respective markets can handle each price for that given product. It's the confluence of capitalism, big data and the flexibility of online commerce.

Take Amazon for example. They constantly change their prices - literally millions times a day across their catalogue. They have massive amounts of data on what's selling, what's not, what people are looking at, adding to carts, to wishlists, removing from carts. You could put a given product in to a cart at the same time as someone else, and both of you could get a different price. Or the same price. The price changes aren't anything to do with what the product cost them - they do constant calculations on finding the optimum pricing for a given product in a given market at a given time. Sometimes that makes the price fall, sometimes it makes it rise. All the time, Amazon are making money from it.

You can't apply the same rules to online shopping as you would to bricks and mortar regarding price stability or consistency, as physical shops can't react fast enough to change prices on the shelves - although there are up and coming companies looking to apply the same pricing models to physical stores, so it's possible that it's coming out way sooner rather than later. There may be a day when Tesco's prices change dynamically throughout the day based on store location, time, number of shoppers in the store, age or social profile of the shoppers present, and many other factors. They probably won't ever get away with charging two customers in the same store different prices at the same time for the same product, though, because it will be obvious that one person is getting ripped off. Online stores can do all this stuff now and get away with it, because online shopping is a private activity, and most of the times price discrepancies aren't noticed.

The best way to shop online is to always compare prices across multiple outlets, and go with the cheapest each time. They have no loyalty to you, you shouldn't have any loyalty to them. If you play the game, you'll do well, but it takes a bit of work.

By the way, the fuel pump in question (https://www.mister-auto.ie/fuel-pump/bosch-0-580-254-911_g458_a0300!580!254!911.html) is showing up as €190.90 for me on the Irish site - up 2 euro from when you checked 3 days ago - possibly because they know that a load of us on this thread have been searching for it, so they interpret that as a rise in demand.
