Gallagher pretty much admitted that he had collected donations for FF (in brown envelopes) after being confronted live on TV by Pat Kenny that Martin McGuinness' twitter account was about to release evidence of such. But it wasn't McGuinness' official account and there was no evidence.

So argument became should RTE have thrown this at Gallagher all of a sudden, as though there was evidence about to come out, which left him stuttering just before the election - especially as they were shown not to have checked their source. But under pressure Gallagher used the infamous term - 'Brown envelopes'
