Aldi... what do you recommend?

i have just moved into an area where there is an Aldi, i am not really familiar with the store, what do you recommend of their products.

The gin is made with added Sauviginon grapes, so there's a subtle sweetness to it, not overpowering, but its there.

She (my wife) said it's grand, but pairing it with soda water or just standard tonic is much better than with elderflower version of tonic, as the two flavours overlap apparently.

She gave it a big thumbs up in the end, but especially with soda water.

Aldi are now stocking Linda McCartney vegetarian sausages, so that's one more item I don't have to visit Tesco for.

Also, they've introduced 2 x new veg burgers to their range, Thai burgers and falafel burgers.

Mrs D says the falafel ones are delicious.

Nice one - just picked up a pack yesterday.

Also new: Saag Aloo Gobi, Bombay Potatoes and Patatas Bravas in the chill cabinet.

Tried the Aloo Gobi yesterday - not bad, has a 'fragrant' ingredient I'm not too keen on, but nice to see more options like this..

Aldi do a Cote du Rhone that's no more than €6.
Bright Blue and red label.
I'd happily drink it out of the bottle with a straw it's so nice.:pac::pac:

Got a box of their Crunchy Nut Cornflakes as a treat the other day.

Feck me, they're lethal! Worse than any muesli for rock-hard bits, I seriously feared for my slightly dodgy crown :eek:

Will not be getting them again, delicious and all as they were.

The Iron Horse Shiraz from Australia is a favourite of mine from Aldi. Great value for the money and stands up well to €20+ versions of the same.

I tried pasta parcels stuffed with ricotta and spinach, really lovely!
Also got a tub of red pasta sauce.
The pasta cooked in three minutes and the sauce was heated in 1 minute.
One was 1.99 and the other was 1.29 lovely lunch.

My only regret is that I forgot to pick up a bottle of vino!!

My current go-to quick meal is those tortellini with the stir-in tomato and mascarpone sauce with lots of parmesan and some crispy bacon if I have it. Cheap, quick and soooo tasty!!

(Wine is a bonus!)

The festive treats have arrived... tried the orange and cranberry fudge - avoid, it's horrible! Very strong orange oil flavour, and the fudge dissolves leaving a sandy texture in the mouth

This 1000%. It's been our regular red for at least 3 years. If it's a special occasion we'll push the boat out but for everyday table or easy drinking red their Cotes du Rhone is the best value and quality I've found anywhere.

They also have a German Limestone Riesling at the moment for €8.99 which is amazing. Really dry and citrus with a hint of fizz. Compares well with equivalent wines that are twice the price.

The salad pots are very good, way better than the terrible Lidl ones.

One of those and a pack of the cooked salmon makes a good work lunch for two days.

Bought the Specially Selected vintage cheddar, it's horrible. Unpleasant and waxy texture and tastes way too acidic, almost bitter. Won't be trying it again.

Bought the pigs in blankets, not a nice sausage meat, wouldnt buy again. Their steak and merlot pies are alright though.

I got the Mexican Bean Soup in the chilled section this evening , I thought it was quite tasty , and filling !

It was my first time to get it so must try it again , with sour cream
