What counts as nudity?

Seeing KKW's latest Instagram post promoting her eyeshadow (see link below), it prompted me to start a thread about something that's been bugging me for a long time.

What constitutes nudity?

Kim is completely topless in this shot (don't all rush to the link at once) save for her fingertips covering her nipples.
If she was photographed entirely bare chested, chances are that her nipples would be blurred out in an edit.
Why is this so?
If a woman is photoed or filmed with 90% or her breasts on display, who decides that the nipples are deemed inappropriate to show but the full bust is OK?
Also take for example a photo or a film clip of someone pulling a mooner of their buttocks. Again, generally we see this obscured in editing but yet say for example in Love Island we see the ladies' butts on display but because there's a wire string bikini (that can't be seen because it's so far up said butts) it's OK not to censor the 90% of ass cheek we can see.
Maybe I'm missing something or not comparing like with like?

Well that's instagram, and although I don't use it myself, I believe it is used by the likes of porn stars and such who'd have full pussy on show in pics?

So i presume the definition of nudity or what is allowed to be seen depends entirely on the platform that is hosting it.

If you mean indecent, though, that is a cultural construct: it varies from place to place, and at different times.
In many countries, neither men nor women could go topless in the street.
On the beach would have a different protocol, of course.

In almost all cultures, though, bare genitalia is considered very private and not for exposure to general view. I don't know why this is but it's damn near universal.
Nipples, by the way, are not genitalia: they are for feeding babies. Men's are useless.

The photo you link to falls under the category of implied nudity. Yes, the model is nude but the essentially private parts are overed by objects other than clothing.

For some reason, society has secided that female nipples, and the pubic areas and gluteal crevices (bumcracks to you and me) are generally speaking potentially offensive and should therefore be covered in public.

But yea it has always baffled me too why the entire breast is not nudity but the nipple itself somehow is. And why some people get so amazingly worked up and offended by public breast feeding - but are absolutely constitutionality unable to explain a single reason as to why it is a problem. Usually falling back on some weird "well I just dont want children seeing it" cop out.
