Bear in mind that when you hear about people up in court and 'they have 38 previous convictions', this doesn't mean they have been up in court 38 times.

One time up in court could contain 3, 5, 10 convictions for example.

Plenty of people still drive without a license. The question should be, how did she avoid jail time with 37 convictions? Clearly she wasn't taking it seriously. And that's only the 37 times she was caught!

On a serious note, travellers are supposed to be tight knit families. I know her mum is dead, but where are the rest of her family? Why are they not helping her?

If they took her in she would not be deemed a priority and would move down the housing list. Better to play the long game and stick out emergency accommodation to get that forever home

36k into your hand equates to a job paying 52k gross. The person earning 52k gross, gets 36k net and then has to start paying rent or mortgage. So her set up is pretty good.

Isn't this a bit of the problem Pavee Point and other Traveller advocates have though? They've achieved ethnic minority status but does that include carrying on with practices that are incompatible with a modern society?

Let the travellers on in celebrating, expressing and promoting their culture but I think the state should move into an era of strong arming and clamping down on camp fires, illegal sulky racing, animal abuse, welfare fraud, child negligence...the list is a long one as far as I'm concerned.

I think the state does bear some blame- it has been too cowardly in enforcing the same standards across the board of society. The laws are there for us all and a minority status isn't a licence to break those laws.

There's been a history of acceptance by state enforcers (and the general population) for whatever reason)) of behaviour and traditions that simply aren't acceptable.

If the state and law abiding citizens (including travellers) are guilty of one thing it's allowing itself to be intimidated by a feckless and reckless minority.

Personal responsibility is something that is severely lacking in so many areas of society nowadays in this country.
