I have one in an S60. It's a thirsty enough beast. I am doing mainly N road driving at 90 km/h and I struggle to get into the low 40 mpg area. Around town it GUZZLES diesel. Gearboxes are a sealed for life box and can be a bit troublesome. They eat engine mounts and front suspension components. I drive mine exceptionally easily due to the auto box flaring if I accelerate hard so it just doesn't get driven hard but front tyres lasted about 15,000 miles which isn't great especially with my lazy driving style.

A great barge though, the seats are unrivalled comfort wise. I test drove a 2016 S60 during the summer and felt it would be a downgrade compared with the old model. Find one with heated seats, full leather and if it's your thing the Dolby sound system and I defy you to find a nicer car for twice the cash. Mine is easing gently into retirement, only need it another 8 months or so but I just love it.

Obviously not as nice and modern as the newer cars, but much cheaper and IMO probably a safer bet in terms of bangernomics. Personally I prefer these to the newer ones looks-wise, but I haven't driven an 07+ S80.

Jag S Type is a good shout too. You wouldn't struggle to get one well under €2k with test in either 2.5 or 3.0 auto.

Lexus IS is a good shout too but a lot of them are quite ropey.

I’m on my 3rd P2 (‘99-‘06 model years) S80 and they are lovely busses to drive. There is no better way to cruise on a motorway. All mine have been petrol models; 2x 2.0t and 1x 2.t. The 2.0 gets ~31mpg and the 2.5 gets 29mpg. They were the last car designed by Volvo before they were taken over by Ford, and everything since seems a bit more “built to a budget” than the older stuff. The 2.0l petrol engine in the ‘07-‘10 car is a totally different beast, loosing a cylinder and 40hp, with a minimal improvement in efficiency & emissions.

They take a bit of looking after, needing regular suspension rubber bits and tyres. The manual gearboxes are bullet proof, and the auto box issues are usually fixed by doing an oil flush. That being said, my current S80 needs more spent on it to get through the next NCT than it’s worth, so I may be scrapping it in the near future and switching to something more modern.

Pretty sure LPG was a factory fit option on those and being a pre-Ford design, it would have been done to Volvo standards. If you find a factory fit LPG version, then I'd have no worries about longevity.

CO2 will be better and while mpg will be worse, the cost per litre makes it cheaper overall.

I thought it was at least moderately better or just better or even similar, I guess the C02 means not very much when it doesnt affect motor tax, plus I never knew it was a factory fit, I thought all lpg cars were after market conversions, both adverts say that and Id be suprised if its anything other than that, open to being corrected.

Miles per euro is better. That's what one wants. Slightly better than diesel generally. I ran a 2.2 petrol and because of high mileage paid for the €1100 conversion rather quickly.
No, dual fuel is common in Scandinavian cars and if you look at many EU car manuals, you 'may' see gas mentioned. Which is a fair indication, to me, that the valve deals will tolerate the high burn.

some were done by Volvo there were good tax incentive around the 2000s to do so.
