Turas Nua, Beware, understand what you may be getting into.

I have been on Turas Nua's books with about 3 months, they haven't done anything worth while for me during this time, but I obliged their requests for meetings, as I understood at the time it was part of the social welfare system and their requirments.

Now I have since got a job on my own merit, so I contacted my appointed rep at Turas Nua just to be polite and to sign of their system, after a friendly chat and me telling her the company name and the position I have been given, she then tells me they will need to contact my new employer to verify my employment and ensure my benefits will be correct (BS), this was the point I sniffed a rat and realised she didn't have my best interests at heart (How naive am I ).

Upon checking the web about Turas Nua, I only now realise they are a private company appointed by the Department of Social protection. They are a profit making company and not a state body.

I have told them very firmly not to contact my new employer, but they have said that I signed a acceptance form with them at the start and this allows them to follow my progress, and part of that is contacting employers.

I contacted Citizens Information, who put me onto the Data Protection Commissioner, their reply was if "I had signed an agreement, then Turas Nua may be entitled to contact my employer".

This is a ludicrous situation, I don't want them hassling my new employer, and no doubt they are trying to see if they can get others in the door as well as earning their own commission.

I don't know if there is much I can do at this point.

So this is more a word of warning to others who may be asked to sign up with Turas Nua and what their motives are, because you are not number one priority.

I'm not positive on this, but I'm about 90% sure. When you sign on to Jobseekers, you also give them permission to share on your details to companies like TN.

I wouldnt sign anything without a hardcopy or where I could see what I was signing for.

Is that another thing that is pushed on people? as if its a requirement and hope/expect people dont oppose it? is it legit or just made out that you have to do it, if its not in any legislation, then Id say not.
Cant see that you could be obligated to share your details with a private organisation whether they are engaged by the SW or not after you have paid your social insurance contributions, I would find it hard to believe you can suddenly be made to be obligated to share your details with any such organisation or that it could affect your entitlement to payments legitimately.

It's annoying because I don't make my contact details readily available for a reason. I just like knowing everyone who has my number. And I'd never give away my DOB, PPS etc to anyone unless I absolutely have to. I don't feel great about TN having them now. Especially when they thought asking someone on the phone (where they weren't definite it was me answering) for my DOB for "data protection purposes" was secure enough. Reminded me of all those phishing scam calls you get asking for your bank info. Not exactly a great first impression for me.

I guess I'm just gonna have to be extra careful when I meet with them. I'm gonna have to be really sure of the contents of the PPP or whatever before I even think about signing it. I have an interview booked two days after I go to see them so hopefully I don't have to deal with them for long.

I've heard about that happenning a lot. I haven't been yet but I've already got 2 phonecalls, a text and a letter reminding me about my meeting later in the week. Its like, yeah I get it. I have a meeting coming up. I got it the first time. Its not exactly great when you're getting treated like you might not show up when some of the advisors do just that. Maybe we should be sending them the reminders instead.

I don't know what the current situation is with that but I plan on finding out when I meet with them later in the week. I don't know if I'll sign it but I'll definitely look over it carefully first.

what is the PPP actually? I dont know what it is, and Id be reluctant to sign anything that I dont know whats in it or if I cant even see whats in regarding a sign pad or using a mouse on a screen, not even sure how signing with a mouse on screen is legal as anyone could do that without your consent,

It's their plan on what you they are going to do with you whether you agree with it or not. It also entitles them to contact your future employers to check on you up to year after you've been employed ( and most likely through you obtaining your own employment, this allows them to seek a lot of money from the government for finding you work.

complicated one, but its largely to do with deeply flawed economic models and ideologies, whereby 'full employment' is critical to show that these models and ideologies represent the real world, but disturbingly, the really dont. what it is actually showing, how badly we deal with complex social issues, and we have no real interest in dealing with them, and possible exasperation of these issues is not a concern.

Can you point me to where the government said “only long term unemployed receive the Christmas bonus?” I can’t see that anywhere. Where did you read that or hear it?
Also Turas Nua help people with cv and job searches. How is that not a service to long term unemployed?

It’s on the citizens information website and all the media print it when listing what changes have been implemented in the budget. Every year there is uproar because they are telling the general public only long term unemployed get the bonus when it’s not true.

No your mistaken.
This is what citizensinformation says about the Christmas bonus, and I quote “The Christmas Bonus is an extra payment for people who are getting a long-term social welfare payment. It is usually paid in late November or early December”.
It says long term social welfare payment.
It doesn’t say long term unemployed at all.

Here’s what citizensinformation says about Turas Nua
“Supports from JobPath are aimed at people who are long-term unemployed and people who are newly unemployed but who may need intensive support to find work.”
So, no lies there either.

Well can u explain to me so how I received the Christmas bonus last year and had only received Jobseeker’s Allowance a few weeks? and no I was not on any other type of payment before that. Was working full time.

So how do they determine someone who newly unemployed may need intensive support.

Where they able to determine that I needed intensive support after only being on the dole 2 weeks.

Only coming upon this thread now.

Declined to sign my PPP; no repercussions yet.

Declined to answer their Catalyst Analysis (CA) so they couldn't square the circle as it were; totally frustrates them.

Initially after Induction Session and introduction to PA I was issued with an appt. of a week hence; because I didn't sign my PPP (and I asked for it to be printed off so I could have a copy and look through it; it's a contract after all) I was brought back in a bit quicker.

Again declined to sign it and had a fortnights break which was about a week ago now and wasn't issued with a letter for another one in person as they normally do so they'll have to send one out.

Let there be no rush......!

Been asked by PA to do the CA; I guess this means they get it in neck if customer doesn't sign from line manager?

Nothing personal to my PA; it's just who and what they represent professionally.
