Garda Recruitment Stage 3 (2018 Campaign)

New thread for the interview.

Officially booked in for 3 weeks time.

How will ye all prepare? I think now is the time to get onto any guards ye know, especially recently recruited ones.
Will there be a career services course? I'm not too sure how they could prepare that many people for something so individualised, and I'm not too sure it would be a good idea taking it if there was one.

Have to say I'm getting excited now. If we get through this, the medical & fitness surely won't be long after, and if your vetting gets done in a reasonable time there's every chance we could be all signed off for the 2nd quarter of next year, as was promised! Definitely optimistic, but even to be signed off by the July intake would be amazing.

Any one know if our oom can change from now on with only the physical and medical left? I've been up and down like a yo-yo, changing over 100 places after stages 2 + 3.

Only real concern I have left is the eyesight test. I think I'm right on the verge and would really not like to have to drop 5 grand on that lasek.

Honestly, no idea.
I wear glasses as well, so mildly concerned about that too. My OH had a student who apparently wore jam jars (his words), so I'm trying not to worry too much. :L

I agree with this. I felt more "grilled" during my weakest competency. They try to ask you the same question a different way if you aren't giving them enough to assign points.

My advice is to go over the competencies and sub headings and know what example you will put there with specifics like situation, task required of you, what you actually did and why and the result of your actions.

The same example can sometimes fit multiple categories especially when you attempt this exercise for every subheading, but it is a very thorough way to prepare and will keep you on topic during the interview.

Tbh I think we probably have to a little bit careful in how much information we divulge when talking about the interview. I've heard before this place, among other social media sites, is monitored for people doing that. I have no idea if that is true but I certainly won't be risking it anyway.

All I say is how I prepared, which is pretty much what the above posters said anyway. Prepare at least 2 strong examples for each competency. Think about what they're looking for and use your experience to show them you have that. Also think about how each competency relates to the job.
But all in all, don't stress yourself out. It's a lot more like a conversation. Have plenty to say about everything and you should do fine. They will ask you questions you don't expect, but don't panic. There's no perfect answer anyway, and they just want to see that you are a competent candidate.

If you do fail, it's not the end by any means, they're recruiting like mad atm and if anything it's a real show of resilience if you apply again after being turned away before.

Passed the interview, congratulations to everybody else on here who did. I would say to anybody who failed to be undeterred and try again. This was not my first time to apply!

I suppose I'm a bit annoyed because I didn't get to give that first general response. They were specific from the beginning. So all those nice scenarios I'd learned off became useless to a degree because they weren't focused enough on their angle of questioning. Ah, sure I'll know more when I get the feedback. This bloody stings.

Folks I have a question regarding form B.
I have no father on my birth certificate etc so cannot complete the details on the form regarding him. I’m also confused if I should put my mothers current partners information down including his children and their mother (it does say step sisters etc) but since my mother and him aren’t married unsure if they qualify as step family and if they do do I have to include all of his family?

Might not be that expensive. I got a quote of 2000 or so for the more standard, and 3000 or so for the "wavefront" technology jobbie. You might not want to drop the cash but I can't see many other places money would be more well spent then your health! No glasses or contacts would be amazing.

The OOM you receive after the interview will stay the same going forward.

Does anyone know whats next now? As in is it medical or physical first and when we'll be called for it? Also does we receive a breakdown of results from the interview?

Medical first, then the physical if you go by previous campaigns.

Sergeant at the stage 2 induction said that this time the physical would be first. And everyone competing it was to have a doctor's cert saying they are for to do so...
If passed the garda medical would follow.

Anyone know how much advance notice we'll be given for the physical? And how long after the interview is it and the medical usually?

That's what he's saying. Stage 3 is the interview.

really??? Doesn't seem to make much sense. I thought I had loads if time for the physical, that's annoying.

This is my 3rd campaign and you'll find quite a few who passed stage 2 have been through a campaign or two before. Recruitment is very frequent these days so I'd say you won't be waiting too long. If you do a good prep-course they can give you a format for report writing, that's what I failed on before.

If I can give you all any advice it would be to start training for the physical asap.Especially the ladies in regards to the push pull machine, there seemed to be a lot failing on that. Best of luck!

Same here. 1 to 2 hours a day regime for me starting today lol. Going hard core, cardio one day and weights on alternating days . I am a weakling of the highest order at the minute.

I am a woman as well so I may have some problems with push pull.

Also dieting like my life depends on it. I have really been slacking because I didnt think the campaign would move so fast

I had that. I needed to submit original version of degree. PAS has to be satisfied you meet all language requirements and leaving cert requirements or equivalent before the send your application to Garda HQ. They would have told you what they need to do this on the interview day. If in doubt, ask PAS if your application was forwarded.

The same way the defence forces recruit.
They probably don't want to wast the money and time doing medical for those who can't pass the physical
