Catching up on Snap Judgement. Episode 612 Unforgigven featured a story of a woman who lost her husband. He died in the line of duty as an officer with the NYPD bomb squad. She later corresponded with the woman jailed in connection with his death. All was going well, very well, until they met. Found it quite moving.

Anyone listen to The Dick Show?

Only started listening to it recently but I'm already fully on board. Love the caustic sense of humour, the irreverence and the unpolitical correctness.

It's definitely not for the faint-hearted but it's a refreshing change from the usual podcast format and its hosts are far more relateable than say those of TIL or Radiolab, and in no way is gratuitous or controversial for the sake of it.

Had to google the whole Maddox thing but that just adds another layer to the madness.

Loads of updates and very well laid out.

Came across "Dissecting the 80s" recently, it's 2 brothers breaking down 80s movies and tv shows, some episodes are better than others but overall a solid listen if you're interested in 80s movies.

I see that free podcasts for all seems to be increasingly on the way out - some of you may be familiar with the "Crimetown" podcast that covers a city in the US and goes through politics and crime history in it - Providence RI was season 1. It was very good. Season 2 coming out on Detroit but will only be on spotify.

Anyone giving season 3 of Serial a listen? I miss the whodunit style of season 1 but besides that, it's been very interesting so far.

The US justice system seems (in this microcosm at least) to be less about are you innocent or guilty when brought in, and more about convicting people with something. The story about the girl in the bar getting her arse smacked and retaliating is horrendous.

yes you're right - strange since in the 3 minute "coming soon season 2" teaser trailer they say at the very end that it's exclusively on spotify.

maybe they are giving ep 1 or hopefully they were talking rubbish and it's all free!

I have spotify, but I prefer listening to podcast through my podcast app. If it's spotify only, going by the first episode, I won't bother with it.

true - gets old very quickly. the first season was pretty good I thought - lots of diverse type characters - although the majority were of Italian descent!

Loved Series 1. Enjoyed Series 2. Thus far on Series 3? Undecided. I've enjoyed the fact that, to date, Serial has followed on from episode to episode. That isn't the case in this series so I've still not made my mind up about it.

What I like about season 3 of Serial is that it feels like solid, honest-to-goodness journalism. It mightn't be as sexy as a nice whodunit, but the subject of this season is arguably a lot more important and fascinating in its own right.

They could have easily gone looking for another juicy crime to investigate knowing that fans will lap it up. It is refreshing as I feel there's something a bit off-putting about many of the popular true crime podcasts these days.

I listened to Dr. Death recently and I felt dirty afterwards. I think these things appeal to our voyeuristic tendencies and the podcast makers know it and gleefully take advantage.

If there are any true crime fans out there, I would recommend to listen to "Last Seen".

Its a podcast about the theft of 13 irreplaceable artworks (by Rembrandt and others) from the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston in 1990.

They have never been recovered and the case is still open. The estimate the art's worth at around half a billion dollars today. Only 4 episodes so far, its a weekly podcast, downloaded and listened to it all yesterday can't wait to hear more, I have been avoiding looking up anything to do with the case on-line!
