Anyways..without debating who is right or wrong on this, id like to hear why Gardai wore Balacalavas. Seems a little overdone.

If the protest group are really serious about their campaign and have a half a brain between them, they must immediately see that the likes of Margaret Cash and her ilk have nothing to offer their cause. She is a fraud, plain and simple.
To allow her have a microphone and spout utter tripe is completely counter-productive for the protest.
Of course she is 'manna from heaven' for the media, particularly RTE news and suits their agenda perfectly.

The scheme was lauded as it was to deliver 3500 across the state. To-date it has delivered 15. If you have an issue you can take it up with the author of the article and the minister.

The unfortunate thing in all of this is that there are some pretty simple and obvious steps to take to help the situation, but steps no FG government will ever take due to the impact it would have on their core voting base.

Other more left leaning parties while would likely introduce the measures, would go too far alienating key stakeholders in the economy. There is such a gaping hole in our political environment for a sensible, reasonable party that operate around the middle but use pragmatic decision making and can tackle issues head on.

Was listening to come commentary on this over the weekend and while I'd multiple issues with the guy speaking (Believe he is some political professor in UCD) he did make the point that there is a very clear and obvious landscape around the world at present. Where populations start to realise democracy isn't working for them, and the ability for governments to tackle issues is hamstrung by their re-election fears, people start to get radical and look into alternative methods of politics and governance.

Ireland is generally to safe, cautious and conservative for any radical shift in politics, but when citizens are able to see the solutions quicker than those we elect to govern is, that spells major problems.

Was advocating that point earlier in the thread, and I tend to say it a bit.

Is it a homeless crisis, or is it a housing crisis, or affordability issue. They are too easily packed into the same heading by multiple different groups, and for me it cheapens one against the other.

So for example plenty of people use the homeless angle as their entry to debate or the conversation because its the extreme social and moral aspect, but it's their entry to move towards their actual grievance, not being able to afford a home in a location they want or are paying too high rent.

A valid and legitimate issue, but for some reason people don't feel confident stating that as their issue. I imagine it has something to do with the general vibe that's gone on far too long that actually opposition parties push harder narratives that are class based (lower vs higher) and for people to feel like they have support they nearly twist themselves into the lower class bracket.

When in fact there is an absolute cohort of what would be considered middle class proffesionals who have legitimate concerns and issues. But someone in that bracket maybe feels they wouldn't get proper support or traction.

Which is nonsense, as it's a major issue in Ireland. Third highest rent % in the world (the entire world) and a significant issue of foreign labour coming in through investment hoovering up property continuing this cycle of ridiculous rents.

As someone who works in the IT sector only know this too well.

But tackling this issue is probably not on the radar of most opposition parties, as its a hard sell. It's easier to go the extremes of poverty of the edge cases to get more traction

Latching on? Its one of the biggest bloody facts of these protests, and a point that their nominated speaker made numerous fecking times. So to call it latching on is a bit crap.

No, when did I say that? I do however think that Margaret Cash - spokeswoman for TBTC wants free houses for everyone - I can post links if you like.

I am a working person affected by it, forced to rent a room from my mam because I'm a few bob over the threshold for social housing, and I cant afford rent my own place while I scrimp together whats left of my income for a mortgage deposit. I mean I could go and declare myself homeless, but - I'm not, and I don't feel the need to play the system.

I would be of the opinion that we absolutely and immediately need to introduce better rent controls, but what I don't want is: free houses for everyone, because you know - they aren't actually free.

And I particularly don't want free houses for people who aren't arsed work. Because fcuk those people, and I mean that.

It is compulsory for me do this "hand up"gig every week,and I have done for the past 41 years,continuously, as a full rate PAYE and PRSI contributor.

I have paid every income levy imaginable,property tax,rates and all without being asked,or complaining,as yes,I do believe in the State having a duty to support those in need,as it has,and continues to support You.

Yet,Margaret Cash,and her supporters continue to push for their Nirvana....

It brings us right back to the Private Property Ownership debate....when the Local Authorities provide communal areas,with playground equipment to world-class standard,these are soon laid awaste to,burnt out,physically ripped from the ground,all within a very short time frame,so the preferred answer appears to be a Play Area in EVERY Publicly Provided residence,with the shoebox sized multi stories being reserved for the Private Purchasers....sounds a good plan for sure ?

Now,where do I make my increased contribution ?
