Turas Nua, Beware, understand what you may be getting into.

I have been on Turas Nua's books with about 3 months, they haven't done anything worth while for me during this time, but I obliged their requests for meetings, as I understood at the time it was part of the social welfare system and their requirments.

Now I have since got a job on my own merit, so I contacted my appointed rep at Turas Nua just to be polite and to sign of their system, after a friendly chat and me telling her the company name and the position I have been given, she then tells me they will need to contact my new employer to verify my employment and ensure my benefits will be correct (BS), this was the point I sniffed a rat and realised she didn't have my best interests at heart (How naive am I ).

Upon checking the web about Turas Nua, I only now realise they are a private company appointed by the Department of Social protection. They are a profit making company and not a state body.

I have told them very firmly not to contact my new employer, but they have said that I signed a acceptance form with them at the start and this allows them to follow my progress, and part of that is contacting employers.

I contacted Citizens Information, who put me onto the Data Protection Commissioner, their reply was if "I had signed an agreement, then Turas Nua may be entitled to contact my employer".

This is a ludicrous situation, I don't want them hassling my new employer, and no doubt they are trying to see if they can get others in the door as well as earning their own commission.

I don't know if there is much I can do at this point.

So this is more a word of warning to others who may be asked to sign up with Turas Nua and what their motives are, because you are not number one priority.

Parasites is the word. I was down in my assigned office this morning doing a job search and they are in there breaking their ****e laughing between themselves about a lady who had a sociology degree and was trying to get a placement in her profession.

Report them. God only knows what confidence they break when they talk about you when you are not there. You shouldn't know any details of another client.

JESUS. I'm after getting another letter off them there, looking for details of my employment and employers' contact details, wondering if they could offer me any "further assistance".

I would question, in the strongest possible terms, the use of the word "further" there. Some assistance beyond "hey you should sign up for an Alison account!" "Have you heard of jobs.ie?" "What's your qualifications again? What kind of, like, jobs do people with that do?" and "Here's a workbook about STAR questions, the twelve of us are doing this workbook for the next 2 1/2 hours" is required before you can go throwing the word further around, IMO.

I assume they got my employers' phone number at some point, seeing as I was employed by them since before I was referred to TN. I've been in the job for over a year and a half now, so does that not fall outside of the window in which they "assist" you?

No intention of sending the letter back, but is there any point shooting an e-mail saying I don't want them to contact my employer, or myself? I'll give a heads up to the person whose phone number they probably have, he's not going to be happy if he starts getting plagued with calls.

Very fcuking frustrating that a failed exercise in outsourcing unemployment support is trying to tick some boxes in a desperate attempt to make it look like they're within a country mile of being useful or value for money by persisting in contacting me MONTHS after I thought I was shot of them.

If they are sending you letters then sleep well in the fact that someone there is getting it in the neck to get your employers details out of you so a commission can be claimed

Would they write to you when they could call your employer directly?

Yeah, the letter is pretty sneaky, phrased "confirm a few details" rather than "give us this information". Almost certain I provided a phone number when I started with them but maybe they didn't keep a record.

Yep, once they call you they won't release you to do courses. Personally I would attend the meeting but refuse to sign the PPP agreement, there is no legislation that allows them to cut your SW if you refuse. By attending the meetings you are engaging with them however they will take no interest in you if you're denying them a commission.

TN/Seetec don’t have the power to cut anyone’s payment. They simply report back to SW about engagement/non engagement etc and SW will cut payments if they think it’s appropriate.

I never told them I was going to work , but when they phoned my employer he told them he does not know who they are and was unable to give out information about employees and they would need to contact me directly..As I have no phone (as far as TN are concerned) I never heard another word..Mind you I am still baffled how the found out where I was working.. if I were you I would contact Clare Daly she will point you in the right direction for making a complaint against the scammers.

Yes I know that. They are the one's who inform SW to cut a persons payment and in most cases the will. Hense dont refuse to engage but do refuse to sign the PPP.

You can do this course while on the jobpath program.

They say this is the case although I don't know what they'll actually do if you don't attend your meetings. When on a CE you won't be on jobseekers so they can't cut your payment

No one should have anything more to do with them once you have work and stopped claiming. I don't understand why they continue to harass you once you have work.

I get emails from them every now and then to fill out. Asking me am I still working?

ignore all communications from them if you have fully signed off welfare, as it seems like a lot of the information they are requesting may violate many data protection laws, in particular gdpr. again, id highly recommend those that have been recently requested to partake in the jobpath program, to create an entirely new email address for this process, and to only use this email address for this purpose exclusively, this email address can then be deleted upon completion of the process. id also recommend obtaining a new sim card/phone for this process, and to discard it upon completion of the process, or better still, dont give any phone number during the process.

I'm in the position where I want them to help me to help themselves as well.

Why do they have to ask me whether I’m still working surely they are linked with social welfare so would know if I’m back on the dole?

You might be not working and not signed on the dole at all. You might have left the country. You might be sick. You might be living with someone who can support you financially. You might be caring for a sick person.

If you have fully signed off welfare, ignore all communications, phone numbers, if not blocked, can easily be blocked on modern phones. Same goes for incoming emails, these to can effectively be blocked by creating a rule to do so, in your chosen email provider. Best of luck

Hoping somebody can help me out here...
I have now in the past 2 weeks started year 2 on Turas nua who are already bullying me and making me feel like I am an inch tall and also now on top of that I am expected to go on an interview for a Tús scheme next week...
My father died last Saturday night after a ten month fight for his life in St Vincent's...
I am feeling very depressed and not able to deal with all of this especially as I suffer with anxiety as well. I have made an appointment with my doctor for Wednesday to see if I can possibly get a sick cert for a couple of weeks.
I am hoping somebody could give me any advice whether it be big or small as to how I can deal with all this.. Do I ask to be excused from one of the schemes so that I can deal with my dads death because I am afraid that I cannot deal with both of these schemes at the same time and I feel it is going to be the thing that kills me.

explain the situation to your doctor in full, you maybe entitled to 'illness benefit', which might give you some time away from this toxic process. as far as im aware, 'illness benefit' is applied for in conjunction with your doctor, and you might be able to claim it for up to 2 years, i.e. this might give you a reprieve of up to 2 years from this process. if you re granted illness benefit , you will need to collect weekly/monthly sick certs from your doctor, and present them to your local welfare office. be aware, applying for illness benefit can cause problems with some claimants, in some cases, leading to a reduction in weekly payments. im very sorry for your loss, and wish you the best

all I can advise is go see your doctor and explain how you are feeling, im sure he/she will put you on sick certs for a while. your health is way more important than anything else, especially turas nua..
