What a waste. It's there to be drunk. Drink it. Share it with friends. Pour it generously. Enjoy it. It's no good sitting in a bottle if you get hit by a bus in the morning.

I don't have a taste for whiskey at all but sometimes think I'm missing out when I hear people talk about it. Or even watching a person drink it like it's a kind of magic liquid gold.

Slowly got into drinking whiskey again after some recommendations on here a few years ago ,
Yellow spot and Teelings are absolutely lovely but would I spend money for a bottle never to opened probably not ,but when you see bottles reaching €10,000 + here it's safe to save they maybe a worthy longer term investment ,
If I had that available cash I'd buy 2 one to keep and one to drink

It's probably the best investment you could have made whiskey wise.

A bottle made £650 in an auction a month ago and it's getting more expensive by the month.

Batch number 2 is increasing in value all the time too, I found a few single malt a while back for 70 euro each in a small off licence and they are retailing for 250 - 300 now if you can find them. They was 6000 in existence, not a lot left.
A bottle of Batch number 2 cask strength made £440 last month, there was only 500 produced.

Batch number 3 is easy enough to find at the moment for 75 euro but will turn out a collectors item too even though they produced 13,000 bottles.

I've tasted all of them and didn't notice any difference to be quite honest, that's why I collect whiskey I know I won't be tempted to drink it.

You're missing nothing, buy a half bottle of Paddy in Tesco for 8 euro and you'll get the same bang/buzz from a glass of that.

Some of the 15 year old and older stuff is smoother in my opinion but like yourself I just don't have a taste for it.

Now Vodka, that's a different story. I try to collect that.

I was offered 22 bottles of Midelton for 12 grand two weeks ago.

1 bottle from each year for the last twenty years plus there are two years that had two different bottles.

A bargain for a collector, but also a big profit for the seller. They probably averaged 100 euro each when bought.

Might be still for sale if anyone wants to invest fire me a pm.

Think I've sometbing like 7 or 8 grands worth of whiskey at home now. Been building a nice collection for the last 6 or 8 years. Think my most expensive one is about a grand. It's mostly Irish but some Scotch too. I absolutely love whiskey and I'll drink most of my collection some day in the distant future.

I have a healthy 20 or so bottles in a separate "everyday collection", which has everything from Jim beam to Middleton rare.

Id have a glass or two of whiskey almost every second night.

My favourite at the moment is Powers John's Lane

To be fair there are certain things that it's good to be snobbish about. There's a huge difference between tesco value whiskey and say Jameson. Then there's another jump to the higher end stuff. Although unless you actually like whiskey you're not going to get much from it. But even a casual, occasional drinker would notice the difference. The same goes for most alcohol in fairness. It's one of those things where the cheep stuff is really muck and most people would be at least a bit snobbish.

In fairness I drank enough whiskey and don’t see much difference between expensive and cheap whiskey, I’d prefer cheap whiskey.

There's a whole world of Bourbon out there that we never get to see or taste around here.
I've tasted an amazing Texan Bourbon.
I've had an incredible Alaskan alder wood smoked Bourbon.
American craft distilling is very diverse and innovative - even within the confines of Bourbon. And then there's rye whiskey - a whole other world.

I'm not a fan of any Bourbon that's commonly available here, either - except Maker's Mark;) I , too think it's a nice drop and not too sweet.

Similar situation here. About 80+ bottles at home. Many of them waiting for special occasion.

When I was in high school I always wanted to have that alcohol cabinet that you could see in the movies.

My favorite would be 15yo Green Label Johnnie Walker (Old, discontinued edition)

In the real old west whiskey was pure sh1te and was often watered down with turpentine and tobacco among other things.

Easily 90% of the whiskey I drink is mixed with coke so I couldn't tell the difference either.

I don't mix expensive whiskey with coke though. That would be a waste. However when i drink it neat I can tell the difference quite easily.

There was an interesting experiment done with wine.

Blind taste test.
Three different wines, cheap, middle, expensive.

Most people could tell which was the expensive wine, but interestingly, most people preferred the taste of the middle one!

Price is not always a true indicator of how good something is.

I can't find the exact experiment, but here is a link to one showing that people cannot tell any difference between cheap and expensive wine. Meaning people are paying for a label, and it's all a big placebo.

It's one of 200 bottles that were put on sale this year, 35 of which were allocated for sale in the USA at a RRP of $35,000 each.

Like yerself I like regular Jameson straight up. Give 16 year old Bushmills a run, probably my fav. A mate of mine raves about Green Spot, might be worth a run.

I wonder. I remember back in the day the most adventurous thing I drank was corona so I'm very open to expanding my palate

How do you take your vodka? Someone I knew drank that stuff by the gallon. It was always vodka whenever we were out or in.
