What Whisky/Whiskey are we drinking this month?

I know there's a thread on recommending Whiskeys/Whiskys but there's none on general tasting as far as I can see.

Similar premise to the beer thread, but we'll say month instead of week as drinking a €50/60 bottle of Whiskey/Whisky a week is probably not a good idea...

I picked up a bottle of The Glenlivet Master Distillers Reserve on my travels recently. No age statement.

Not the most complex Whisky in the world. It's quite nice though, smooth and fruity, very strong taste of pears, and a tiny bit of spice. Drank with a splash of water.

Fairly sure I saw Red Bush in Dunnes the other day for €32 (700ml). It was one or two Euro more than the Black Bush

Picked up a bottle of cardhu at Madrid airport for €25 great little bargain, and along with black barrel, my fave whisky at around the €50 mark here

I agree. It was 1 or 2 euros dearer than Blackbush....I can't remember the price but it was in the 20s....I think. there are a few offers on Bush at the moment.

O'Briens have Blackbush at 25 with redbush at 30 and whitebush at 29.

Well that pricing makes no sense at all!

Nabbed a Black Bush at €26 in Dunnes a couple of weeks back, I should really pick up another if that offer is still on.

Edit: Tesco have BB for €26 until 2 Oct. and Three Swallows for €40.

That's a good price for Talisker. It's a lovely whisky, one of my favourites. Great flavour and nice amount of peat, not too much & not too little. Might pick one up myself cos I'm all out of it!

Had the entry level West Cork bourbon cask whiskey again, lovely distinctive flavour. For 25 quid in dunnes it's impossible to do better.

Galway shopping centre Tesco also stock it, all out at the moment though.

I'd try them straight.
Then I'd try them with a tiny drop of water.
If it is still too "hot" for your taste, try a little more water until it is to your taste.
You may find that you prefer them without water.

Personally. I don't like straight sided tumblers for whiskey.
I like a cognac glass or a malt tasting glass. I often use a wine glass for spirits, too:eek:
But I love my malt tasting glasses for any spirit.

Speyside is the most like Irish scotch you'll get. It's milder and sweeter with very little if any peat at all. I found it to be a great introduction to Scottish whisky and you'll get to peatier stuff in time.

Picked up a bottle of Glenfarclas 10 yr old in O’Briens a few weeks ago. Liked it so much I have bought the 15 and 17 yr old versions. Love the sweet sherried style, and reasonably priced for the quality you get. Great Speyside malt, and the 17 yr old was quite beautiful with some Xmas cake I had left over from last year...

Yep, very good as an introduction to Scottish whisky. Cragganmore 12 is a lovely drop if you can get it here, Glenlivet 12 too is similar. Also aberlour 10 is decent. Some of them can be peated too but they are pretty uncommon. I got a lovely bottle of Ben Riach curioistas peated 10 yr old from celtic whiskey on Dawson St.

Some lovely Highland whiskeys too like Glenmorangie and Highland Park. Very similar to Speyside.
