Lets consider the religious conversion for those who convert to Islam, and I'd consider them to fall into two primary categories.

a) Those who are going through the motions embracing the religion on the surface, but ultimately keeping their western perception. These people are like tourists. They might visit mecca and go through required gestures but still believe in equality for women or other very western concepts. Awesome. Just the right kind of Muslims... But let's face it, that they're pretty rare, and tend to become far more traditional as they become older.

b) Those who whole-heatedly embrace Islam, and jump down the rabbit hole embracing the more fundamental beliefs. A complete 180 degree change in perspective, with a rush to remove all the contamination that western culture provided. You can see these kinds of people in those who change allegiances and actually fight for Isis, or join grooming gangs.

For myself... I don't want a Dominant Islamic culture in Ireland (or Europe). I don't want communities where my nieces are assaulted (verbally/physically) because they don't dress or behave as Muslim women. This is Ireland, and should have Irish cultural habits. It's fine to welcome Muslims to Ireland, but only as long, as they're accepting that their beliefs are not ever to be projected on to others. Never. Ever. No chance of. None. Zip. Nadda.

But... here's the thing. Those who defend Islam in Europe are the very people who would support changes in our society/culture/laws to make Muslims equal with the Irish...

Except, of course, Islam (or Muslims) doesn't seek to be equal, since their religion/culture tells them that there can't be any competing ideologies.. It really is amazing how much people try to ignore this. Both Mohammad and the Koran have identified themselves as being the one true faith and it is the Duty of Muslims to remove/absorb other faiths. That's not open to interpretation... that's a pretty clear order. And I've seen no movement within Islamic groups to change that order to say "let's peacefully coexist and respect other cultures especially when we're in their countries"..

You can't leave Christianity easily either. Once you're baptized and registered... you need official recognition from the Church to be removed, and they don't give it out often.

That's the point of secularism. You don't interfere with religions and they don't interfere with the state.

When you consider the damage that was done by the church you should be against churches being opened. They have abused thousands of people. Yet some people get their knickers in a twist about a different religion that contains feck all followers in Ireland. And ignore the one that's here and has caused damage.

I'm grand with mosques being built. I'd be as happy about one of them next door to me as I would be about a church next door to me. Which is to say not much, but if they obey all the correct building regulations then they can work away.

I work with muslims and I want them to have the same rights as everyone else. What religion you are shouldn't ever determine the rights you have.

If Islam get's a large following and grip in Ireland it will make the Catholic Church look like small fry to the social consequences.

Hope I'm not asking for a lot here, perhaps his location might be in smallheath in Birmingham or better still saville town in Yorkshire where a job delivering parcels will be sufficient. He didnt complain about the multitude of screeching that mask's as the call to prayer as the different mosques compete for awfulness it was only church bells that annoy him and his type. Anyway,

Since 09 it's been removed as an official thing, but it's quite easy to leave the Catholic Church and it hasn't been exactly an execution offence for many centuries.

Here's an explanation of it.

When was the last time a Catholic court handed down a verdict of apostasy? When was the last time an ex Catholic was killed for it. You can witter on to your hearts content here about Catholicism being a danger and stain on Ireland and its history.
