Thought I'd update the OP with links and stuff for anyone who stumbles across this.

The former Off the Ball hosts have partnered with The Irish Times to do a series of weekly podcasts. They go online each Tuesday and cover a variety of sports, with a number of contributors including Sid Lowe, Richie Sadlier, Gerry Thornley and Shane Horgan.

The interview with Brian McGuigan and Mark Harte was SC and McDevitt in particular at their very best. McDevitt is unique as a sports interviewer in that he has the ability to allow a story to be retold without jutting in unnecessarily with mind numbing questions (I am looking at you Ger Gilroy) that disrupts the flow. Eoin will when necessary redirect the conversation, but in general will just ask good, well researched questions and allow the guests to respond.

I was not aware of the tragic story of that Tyrone team, and it really makes me respect Micky Harte and the Tyrone boys even more. And this is coming from a Kerryman!

I usually see GAA episodes and expect to shuffle through them... I love GAA but GAA talk/analysis is almost universally cliche ridden borefests

But that podcast had me hooked instantly.

Couldn't agree more! Huge GAA fan, but cant listen to the 'sure look' or 'listen...' 'long grass' 'that wont be good enough the next day' 'we're under no illusions' BS

The Tyrone one was a welcome break from listening to current players afraid of saying the wrong thing.

For me, that pod had everything that separates SC from the rest (notably OTB). There was the (not-forced) humour between the lads at the start, followed by the brilliant, frank, honest interview between Eoin and the Tyrone lads. At times, you would hardly realise Eoin was there - which is the beauty of it, he lets the conversation flow and develop, like steering a ship. The dichotomy between himself and Gilroy could not be more obvious in this pod, he just asks the questions and lets the lads speak. Gilroy goes on a soliloquy when asking a question to the point where you forget what the question actually was.

I've no interest in gaelic football. Seems to have featured heavily since last week in almost every pod and still more to come

Don't think the hurling final had anything like the coverage as a build up to the final even though the football championship is as dull as dishwater.

There’s undoubtedly been more buildup to the football final, which is actually insane when you consider the hurling championship we had. I can only put it down to the fact that 4 of the 5 lads are Dubs and are probably all Dublin fans.

The Dublin hype is worse than the "Footballs coming home" we had to listen to all summer. It's ruled a lot of podcasts out for me because zero interest.

I've no interest in hurling either, so not a great few weeks for me. I just hope to god this game isn't a draw so it's not drawn out for another week.

Richie Sadlier has an Instagram post up alluding to the fact that he's doing 3 different interviews in three different locations today. I presume three players chairs. Any early predictions? Roy Keane would be the ultimate players chair.
