The Restaurant Recommendation Thread

There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

They do have fairly extensive vegan and vegetarian menus separate to the early bird option. €26 for two courses.

Agree it is a shame that there's no vegan/veggie option on the early bird, though.

I fancy a burger tonight, but will have two (possibly cranky) kids with me. Is the service fairly quick in West Cork Burger? Do they have a kids menu?

Try Bunsen. Very fast, decent burger. The menu has two things on it. Burger. Chips.

Has The Fishwife gone downhill or did I just get unlucky?
Last Sunday I got haddock from Mc Curtain St that really was not fresh at all.

I sent a private message on twitter telling them that it was not up to their usual standard, by a long way.
I got no reply.

I've found they've dipped in quality ever since they opened on Grand Parade. Fairly stingy with the portion sizes too.

It did seem smaller than usual, alright.
I wasn't to bothered about that, though, as it was really unpleasant.
I'm fairly raging that they read my private message and didn't bother to reply.

I used to really like The Fishwife and recommended it to everyone. I'm very disappointed by this.

A bit off topic but still food. Used often pick up the deal in Cuarlaoi's in Ballincollig on the butcher side. Stuffed pork, chicken breasts garlic potatoes, that sort of thing. Each item €3.99 but 3 for €10. Took a bit of a jump recently. Each item now priced at €4.75 and the 3 deal priced at €12.
Now that rates as food inflation of 20%. That is not just keeping up with rising costs but seems more the greed of the Celtic Tiger returning. Good quality but very disappointed.

Even during the austerity period O'Crualois were off the charts with their pricing.

They've closed the store in Carrigaline- things not going well for the company?

I used to get their scones and bread a lot but recently haven't found the quality as good.

Things slipping it feels like. Sign of poor management.

I had lunch in the one in Fermoy last year, the food came out burnt. When I complained the response was "don't eat it so".

I need to go back there, not only are their burgers unreal, they have the best chips in Cork

We ate in Thali in Pope’s Quay recently. Ordered a mix of the momo dumplings, the Kerau paneer curry and their large mixed grill plate. Also had some of the Nepalese beer that they stock. Overall very nice, especially the grilled prawns.

Iv stopped going there since the price jump, plenty of good butchers around the city not trying to insult its customers. Cork Meat Company out in Dosco's is my new haunt at the moment, some great deals and meat is of the highest quality.

Head into the English Market, you'll get whatever you need in there.

O Mahony's just inside the English Market by the Fishwife entrance on Grand Parade.
Really good pork that actually has flavour and colour.
He does some really interesting cuts and all the meat is top quality. Family run business who also supply lots of restaurants around town.

I have no connection other than being a customer.

Bresnan's in the English market have very good quality meat but I can't abide that man, his wiley ways and his lack of clear pricing.

O Flynn's on Marlborough Street are also excellent, have diverse cuts and make very good sausages.

This place is a joke these days. I was never the biggest fan but got a take away recently that I could even finish. There was so much salt on the chips you couldn't see the actual chip.

I remember around September they had a sign in the window looking for someone to help with their online presence or something, they apparently didn't find anyone.

It's also frustrating that the vast majority of places (that don't have an online ordering system) can't even do something as simple as post an up to date menu online.
