2018 Rose of Tralee thread.

I'm surprised the usual people haven't started a thread already. (If they have delete/merge threads please mods)

Anyway the usual hilarity and cringeworthy carry on will probably happen. There are 32 entries and what do people think the number of nurses/teachers there will be this year ? I'll go with 14 in total.

I'm sure we will have waltzing Matilda played for the Australian roses and another stereotypical American song for the roses from America. I've no idea which roses got in or all that.

Are Rose winners going to be decided on novelty alone.. Maria Walsh was excellent as well as lesbian.

Would the Carlow Rose be in the shake up without her being a mam and her parents being addicts??

Probably would, she was a nice girl. Just hope someone wins as they're the best not for novelty or popularity trends.

But Walsh didn't present herself as lesbian at the show....it (er) "came out" later. She won it fairly on the strength of her 'Rosyness"

It's good to see RoT moving along with the times and that's why it has lasted as long as it has.

But just because someone has a hard luck story (however genuine), that doesn't in itself make a winner.

Leaving out Carlow's background, she was fairly mediocre.
A sympathy vote is just a patronising insult....however well intentioned.

I'd hate to see it turn into the Rose of Hard Knock Life.

She was too perfect, she needed a rough edge or two. She could be genuine though, if that's the case then fair play to her but people will find it hard to identify with her.
