Which small crossover

I’m planning on buying a new car at the beginning of next year and I’m trying to decide which one at the moment (super early but I like to be prepared).

I’m thinking a small petrol crossover and have been looking (online) at the Seat Arona, Hyundai Kona and the Kia Stonic. My budget is 25k max and I want a decent spec ... reversing sensors, decent size display screen and hill start assist would be must haves. Keyless entry would be a nice to have.

I’m leaning towards the Arona at the moment based on the fact that it has the biggest boot of the three and looks wise I think it’s the nicest but I’m not 100% on it either. The longer warranty’s on the Kona and Stonic in particular have put them on the list. Reading the online reviews it’s seems like there isn’t much to separate them all.

I do like the T-roc as well but it’s above budget. Also liking the sound of the T-Cross so waiting to see what the price point and specs will be.

Is there any other good option that I should be looking at based on people’s experience?

Is there any make where the dealers would have more wiggle room on the list price than the others?

Toyota C-HR?

Regarding best discount, generally there is no fast/hard rule but any model that's newly launched or in high demand tends to have the smallest discount as the dealers don't need to discount them much in order to sell them.
Something that has been on sale for some time or something that isn't selling very well might attract a higher discount to meet sales target.

Just to add to your mix in 2019 Skoda Vision X should come in between the Arona and the T-Cross. Nissan Juke will be redesigned too. Honda HRV perhaps?
No personal experience with any of them though. I agree that as the segment is relatively new discounts might be hard to come by.

There is a revamped Dacia Duster due towards the end of the year, might be worth a look.

My mam was looking at the same kind of cars as you. I haven't driven any but I'd go for the Arona personally. Get the Xcellence with the 115hp petrol, throw on the techie stuff like sensors and camera, heated seats, keyless entry, 8" screen with Android Auto/Apple Car Play etc. Should come in at about €25k and you could probably haggle a bit down from there.

Don't like the Kona at all, looks like cheap and plastic really. This is more an issue for myself but the Hyundai and Kia dealers we dealt with weren't interested in a sale of either car. She went in looking to trade her i30 for a Kona. Flat out just said they don't have any automatics, won't be getting any etc. Suggested a €40,000 diesel Tucson if she wanted an auto. She was looking for a €25k petrol.

Ended up with a Mokka X due to the lengthy wait for factory order DSG Arona being 6+ months. Terrible car. Crap to drive, cheap on the inside, engine sounds like a diesel etc.

Mazda CX-3 is well worth a look. Lovely car. Citroen C3 Aircross is well worth looking at too and they come with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty.

I did like the look of the CX-3 alright but the only petrol engine is 2lt as far as I can see? Not a fan of how the Aircross looks.

That do seem to be the case alright. A pity. Mazda could be losing sales there. Another one you could look at but might be a bit over your budget is the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. It comes with a 1.5 petrol turbo and is a lovely car. A little bigger than what you are thinking of but not as big as say a Hyundai Tucson or a Seat Ateca.

Your not going to buy an Eclipse Cross for 25k though.

BTW the Mazda CX-3 2.0 litre petrol is cheap to tax and apparently good on fuel so it shouldn't just be ruled out because it's 2.0 litre.

already available in the north and even with vrt it should be a good bit cheaper.

Looked up the Subaru XV there, rather pricey. Well over the €30k mark. All Subaru models sold here seem to be CVT now, interesting...

CVT = Petrol

Subaru are phasing out diesel models as the stock runs out

You could say the same about Dacias but loads of people buy them now. Yes the Asx has been around a while but its a good solid and very reliable car thars not to expensive and comes very well equipped. Maybe thats all some people want.

Its had a revamp there recently. The dash has not changed much from its launch do but its been revamped twice I think.

At least a lancer or an ASX have style do and look like someone designed it. Can't say that about the boxy Tiguan or the evolutionary Golf. Sure the Golf is a lot better inside and maybe on the road compared to the lancer but I think the lancer would give less trouble.

I wouldn't describe the ASX or Lancer as having style, the world has moved on since the 1990s even if Mitsubishi haven't with these models. They might be competitive in developing markets but there are far more better options from their competitors in this corner of the world. And the ASX still costs a good bit more than a Duster.
