Hey guys
Any info greatly appreciated.
I was on Jobseekers for about 3 weeks in April but withdrew my claim as I got a new job (I never actually started it-GP Ccrt cites Mental Health issues in the
cert she gave me on June 12th.
I have spent the last month in hospital without any payment.
Considering it was 12th June when I got my first cert and it probably won't be until mid August that I'm declared fit for work
The Mater have been most helpful in offering certs and letters, now I'm wondering how I go about claiming it back.

Hope you are on the mend.
Get the form (me1 ?) for illness benefit your gp will have it, get it filled in and signed and there is a section on backdating give the reason why and the date you want it backdated to. Get it signed off and either send it in by post or drop it into your intro local office and get them to check you filled it in correctly and dont forget to add the letters from the hospital and GP too.

For what it's worth I'm still in hosp for 2 more weeks so am i better off waiting?

I don't know what you will get.
But send it in and they will assess you as of now, and you then have to submit a cert weekly. Then when you are better, as in available to seek work, the gp or doctor will sign a cert to confirm this and you will need to apply for job seekers rather than illness benefit

But will they still backdate me in one lump some for what will essentially be 10 weeks without any sort of payment? If i get all the certs they need and GP/Hospital letters

No one here can guarantee you that they will, but your situation isn’t unique & DSP guidelines do allow for late claims once they are satisfied that you have a valid reason. They understand that when a person is ill & especially hospitalised that it’s not always possible to keep on top of form filling, so don’t stress yourself out over this for now - just submit your med1 & certs asap. They will let you know soon enough as regards their decision.

So long story short, get this ME1 form filled out properly ASAP and signed off - get letters from GP and the hospital stating how long ive been an in patient as well as certs- and have them dropped into Intreo immediately ?

Yes. The quicker you get it done the quicker you’ll hear back. If you have no other income while your waiting then you need to make an appointment with your CWO to get an SWA payment. You can do this when your dropping off the certs.

Ok so my GP rang them and sorted it - they're putting me on Illness Benefit, apparently it's for 26 weeks/6 months and they're gonna Backdate 14 weeks of that straight up.

I was looking at the rates on their website - the old personal rate was 198 per week and they've increased it by 131 so does mean I'll get 329 X 14 straight away? seems too good to be true.

Also i'll be in hospital for a minimum 3 more months and it'll be 4 more months when discharged before ill be cleared to work

the 131 increase is if your claiming for a spouse thats not working

The personal rate of 198 is if you earn over 300 a week normally

i was earning more than 300 a week

If they have confirmed that it will be backdated, It will be paid into your bank account. If you nominate to get your payment in the post office then normally a cheque will be issued.

If its not in your bank account this week, I would call them and ask when the payment will be made. But I would imagine if this has only happened since last week then you should be getting a letter from the department and the payment details will be set out in that. But you should get the payment within the next two weeks. ( Three at the max )

When I popped into the social welfare during the week the status was 'pending decision'

Intreo/Jobseekers are convinced I'm applicable - still in hospital, not fit for work, provided all necessary relevant documents from hospital and GP such as the IB5 form, certiFIcates, GP letters,hospital consultant and doctors letters, registrar letters

Jobbseekers is for people who are actively seeking out work

Illness Benefiit is for those who arent fir for work

Seems black and white to me

Apparently the illness benefit people are changing databases at the moment, and having issues, so there is delays as they deal with live cases already on the system not transferring over correctly. If your application came in at the start of the process it may take longer to set your case up on the new system, and pull your data off the old one.

Yeah from what I gather they've moved to store Street but it's a closed office and they only accept post - waste of time calling or emailing them.

Jobseekers were brilliant - they backdated me to the tune of 1400 from the period between April and June when I did not collect my payment.

They cancellled my claim around the same time I saw the GP and got diagnosed so according to the gentleman in Intreo, i'm all Illness Benefits problem from 14th june - which would be 10 weeks of back payments.

Even after ALL this I'll still be in debt :eek:

Any news on the MC1 form change and the long delay in payment, apparently the department have changed their paperwork and the gp,s are not in agreement with the changes,so there are reports of 4 week delays in payment.

Your illness benefit when you get it will be LESS the swa you are getting now

Yup I know that but there was a period between 12th June and 16th August when I was receiving no payment of any kind whatsoever
