Czech culture and sex
Honest question here.
As we all know, Ireland's dalliances with the porn industry are so insanely rare that, of a country with a combined population of over 6 million, any film or series shot on the island, always by a foreign producer, actually prompts newspaper headlines. From your one from the Tallaght chipper in the relatively early days of our exposure to internet porn, the woman riding what she claimed are Gardai on film, to your scouser one touring Ireland riding GAA players and bank managers, our media engages in the type of, if not shock and revulsion, then certainty a level of scrutiny that surely no other Western nation would engage in, and probably hasn't since the 70s. Of all the Irish people to have starred in a pornographic film, the majority seem to have ended up on the front page of a newspaper out of the sheer rare novelty of it all.
The Czech Republic is only a few million people bigger than ourselves, and one tube site lists 879 porn stars, although I'd imagine there must be a few times more who have made the odd film rather than made a career out of it. You take a cursory look at any tube site, there are god knows how many videos of full on orgies and groups of men taking on one woman, featuring from accredited actresses to seemingly random women there for a laugh and a few quid, aged anywhere from 18 to 60 by the looks of it. Aside from one incident when the daughter of a PM (or president) was allegedly spotted in the background of an orgy in a non participating role, I take it this activity is of utter disinterest to the Czech media.
Out of curiosity I looked up one on Facebook who uses her stage name for FB,j and the page seems to combine her business life with her personal life. Alongside pixelated for FB shots of her before taking part in some orgy in Prague are photos of her going on holidays with her mother, taking what seems to be her niece to the zoo, tagging her father and sister in adoring happy birthday posts. The funny thing is, trawling through her friend list, they all seem to be at this. Page run under stage name, and most clearly have a regular relationship with family, friends and partners (some put up feckin wedding photos?!!?), all of whom are Facebook friends, despite their job being one that, I have little doubt, the vast majority of Irish families would utterly disown their kids for.
Even a cursory look at Escort Ireland reveals 19 Czechs working in this country. All fly in fly out I'd imagine- there seems to be feck all Czechs in Ireland. Their economy seems to be one of the healthier of the post communist ones, so the excuse of dire poverty doesn't to me seem to be a push factor into the industry like it might be elsewhere.
Of the circa 2.4 million Irish/ Northern women of legal age on this island, a total of 19 are working tonight. Most of them using pixelated pictures to hide their identity.
Does anyone know what the difference in Czech culture is? Is it really considered socially acceptable there to engage in whatever you see fits yourself best? I'm not pontificating about their lifestyle or their culture. I'm just wondering is Czech culture really more open to sex work as a career, or are these seemingly thousands of women a statistical anomaly?
