The minor / u21 winners that are on the panel are still under 23, so you reckon he’s been involved with those lads since the age of 8? Serious exaggeration there I’m afraid! In what other county does the outgoing manager offer a number of potential successors? The only case I can think of that is any way close is Tipperary where a selector from the previous regime has been promoted twice, once with it being announced the year before he actually took over. Selectors being promoted isn’t totally unusual, but for a manager to pick a list of candidates who’ve had no involvement in his regime is utterly bizarre, if indeed this has occurred. The whole situation is certainly a big mess, that much we can agree on!

Most of those are aged 27 now ,so 27-12 = 15 years. 8/15 is in excess of 50% of the starting team! of those 8 players - 6 or so all star nominees last year! Excuse Derek for thinking differently and trying something new. To be fair our rich history of all Ireland success is a by product of the outstanding selection process we have in this county!

Secondly, given how strong the Cork U21 team was in PuC that day, it was no surprise that they won, what surprised me was how well we played and, again, the notable talent that was on display. Granted no superstar jumped out on any of the matches, but a lot of very good potential in there. Given how young many of our current senior panel are, all we need really is a couple of new faces each year for the next 2-3 years to keep the squad developing.
Stopitwillya wrote: » I didn't read any posts crowing about how soon Pat Ryan was being appointed. Please enlighten me. Sure the panel has stayed the same for the last few years. Its gone stale. No need to go to club games to see if their are new players who might change things up a bit next year.

Good history with the county, was part of Dereks backroom team last season and has Ballygunner playing very well

We need a clean break from anything connected to Derek. We can wave goodbye to any chances of success if he gets the job and I believe a number of players would leave the panel if he does. In my view we will be back to rank 5 out of 5 In Munster with him in charge. Ballygunner are so far ahead of every team in the County that anything but a County title is a failure with the players they have currently.
