Next year is going to be able bringing new players through the league and having different systems available if needed. In a way I'm delighted SoD is going off until next May, it wouldn't do a few of the other "senior" players to take a break for the winter and for them to realise that there are other players there.

Looking back, almost everyone on the starting team have been on the go since last January, playing a huge amount of games. The lads need a long and proper break, and the management should be looking at exposing and developing a couple of new players. And like, there is no need of playing someone like John Conlon and have him slog it out on the heavy fields in January. We need to keep our players fresh for the longer championship.
Gaatalk wrote: » Look there has been a lot of comments posted following Clare's exit from this years championship that id like to address with my opinions. 1. Firstly id like to say the comments by some users that Davy is toxic in Clare is untrue and unwarranted and disgraceful. Davy won 2 senior All Irelands with Clare as a player and a senior All Ireland Club title for the 1996 Clare County Hurling Champions Sixmilebridge who also wear the Clare colours (Davy was simply a born Clare winner!).Davy won 3 Senior Munster titles as a player in 1995, 1997, 1998. Davy won 1 Munstee Minor title as a player in 1989 too. Davy also won the Poc Fada All Ireland Championship on at least one or more occasions. So Davys pedigree as a player was not toxic but rather a victorious sports ambassador for Clare! The above was some of Davys achievements as a player. With respect to Davys management achievements he achieved great credentials! He first took over a Waterford team in 2008 after Justin McCarthy had resigned and led that Waterford Team to the All Ireland Final for the first time in decades and decades albeit they lost badly to one of the greatest Kilkenny Teams of all times. Davy followed up that final apperance with managing Waterford to a Munster title over Cork in the following years. Davy then managed Clare to an all ireland title in 2013 the first in 16years and to a league title in 2016 the first in nearly 40 years! When Davy managed Clare he knew the limitations of the Clare backline and despite at times especially post 2013 the sweeper system didnt always work the winning result nevertheless it worked as a strategy intermittently with careful planning to ultimately win the all ireland for Clare in 2013 and thats all that counts! Davys management also worked to capture the league title in 2016 just two years ago! How we would treasure any silverware now with the so called 'popular managers 2 of them!' who have failed naively in the last two years to win a title or really recruit any new players ( with the exception of Duggan who lets be frank was almost established last year!) Anyway to continue with the nasty comments on Davy let me say his style while always not the one we all liked did reap the awards! Within 2 years Clare were all ireland champions and not once was he suspended in them two years from the sideline unlike the current managers! which proves he managed for good results as hard as he could! Were it not for Davy the wait for Liam McCarthy to revisit Clare would be 21years and the wait for the league title would be about 40 years! So I am at a loss how some jealous bad minded so called people could say Davy is toxic in Clare. Davy is far from toxic in Clare and I am a clare fan and codone them bullying comments! I bet them same so called clare fans all the same enjoyed the 2013 all ireland win or sadly maybe they actually didnt! The current managements two years are now up they have delivered no title despite taking over an all ireland winning team of just 5 yrs ago. These sad anti Davy fans would be better off debating that and stop dragging Davy into it! Il conclude if Davy was in charge last Sunday or the previous Saturday Clare when they got on top would have seeing out the victory because players would have been brought in sooner, scores would have to be scored not missed (19 wides!) and lastly Davy would have played his tactics close to his chest and would not have let the Clare team be so predictable as in playing the sweeper system again when Gearoid Mc Inerney was out! Indeed the current management were so naive that they went with Davys sweeper system because they had no plan of their own to save themselves but acourse it backfired at the start it had to! So to conclude get a grip Davys critcs and instead stick to the current debate the current management have 2 years got and last weeks loss was the most lost opportunity since 1955 or probably ever! Its time for them to step down. They should get credit for the 3 in a row u21 titles and minor munster titles which was helped by the pool they luckily had but only for Davy Clare would not have won Liam in 2013 and the league in 2016 thats proven now beyond doubt. Davy left in 2017 in my opinion because this current crop of leaders were not prepared to put in the hard work and sacrifices and do what he wanted to in order to land a second title! The team in my opinion were relieved to finish ties with Davy but imo Davy had enough of that. Thats why two years later since Davy left Clare hurling is more toxic and the toxicity starts with the goalie Tuohy who pucked out balls that went straight back from Galway over his bar! He pucked balls over the line to his corner backs! The corner backs when the received shakily some passes from the goalie fumbled them over the sideline UNMARKED! Ask any reasonably hurling fan and will tell you your heart was in your mouth every time with the Clare backlines! The backlines have not beem addressed at all in 2 years by this management! No new or strong backs brought in! Everyone of the existing defence was there in Davy's era! Tony Kelly was woeful bad and has shown even less leadership in a consistent basis since Davy left and management wont drop him! ODonnell played well last Sunday but upto then and with the last 5 years has not! This team were not beaten once or twice (by Cork! Davy would not tolerate that in same year)but 3 times in the championship! How could you win an all ireland with that statistic! Its time for some clare fans to stop saying tuohy was good, that clare progressed this year when instead they collapsed on the big days but lulled Clare fans into thinking they had improved! Finally any team that demands support from the captain and mnagement before they win anything or prove themselves are usually lacking something. This team is currently lacking something and in particular management! Slan!

In 2015 we played 3 championship games where we lost to Limerick and Cork but beat Offaly. Knocked out before quarter finals. In 2016 we played 4 championship games where we lost to Galway and Waterford but beat Laois and Limerick. Knocked out before quarter finals. In 2017 we played 3 games, lost to Cork and Limerick but beat Limerick. Got to All Ireland quarter final and a Munster final In 2018 we played 8 games, lost to Cork and Galway but beat Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford. Got to All Ireland Semi Final and Munster final. Give the lads another year I say.

Do you not think also that it's a little ironic Gaatalk that you give out about people insulting Davy yet you continually slate players here? Which I'm not sure the mods are doing enough about either to be honest.

Davy Fitz brought home An Ireland in 2013 and won All Ireland's 1995 and 1997 and should have won 1998 only for an incompetent ref and he is hated more in Clare than anywhere else. If he never delivered for Clare he probably be better off. It's not as if Clare are like Kilkenny and there trophy cabinet is decorated with All Ireland medals. You have to laugh at some fans.

On the other side I know a few Cork lads that legitimately Hate him.. go figure The same can be said for any manager who managed against his/her home county, there will always be the begrudgers who only see a "turn-coat" You want to see what real hate looks like from Fans, go talk to Fitzmaurice

It's taken Moloney and O'Connor and their coaches two years to right the wrongs of Davy's horrific mismanagement and the destruction of the players bodies. The same players who scared the hell out of Galway twice and were a shade unlucky not to advance as against the disaster of Davy's mismanagement. Contrast Clare and Galway in Thurles in 2016 as against the last two meetings and how Clare were utterly changed positively in 2018 from the disaster of that all-Ireland quarter-final. His ego is legendary and his absolutely unbelievable insecurities are a detriment to both himself and anybody he is a coach to. I went to Cork and saw first hand a possessed Tony Kelly ensure Clare weren't caught out by Wexford. Many of the Clare team he oversaw aren't on speaking terms with him. Davy won all-Ireland and Munster medals, all stars and was a fantastic keeper and graduated to oversee an All-Ireland as manager but unfortunately for him that's not reflected in any great time for the fella.
