This is one of the most active forums on Boards.ie. As a result, discussion can get quite heated. But there are certain things posters must realise are simply not OK to post:

What is the longest ban that can be handed down. Minimum 12 weeks, but it could be a lot worse.

Two category's down the end are the worst from what I can remember. 4 and 5.

I'd say that even though he had a go at the ref twice in between grabbing a player by the throat in a choke hold and booting a water bottle on his way off, all on live TV, that he'll get a 12 week ban, taking into account he's only a chap.

Needs to learn and move on, but all he should do is apologise and accept whatever punishment he is given.

He would be very very lucky to get away with a 12 week ban. I'd have thought 24.

Definitely deserves category 5 punishment, he is 20, not 12. His behaviour was completely disproportionate to what caused it and the rules are the rules.What is the point of having such a ban in the books if you are not going to use it?

Being PC and bringing up the word "witch hunt" to divert somewhat away from discussion of the seriousness of what he done when all people are doing is pointing out the rules is not helpful.

The young man shouldn't be judged as a person for what he done but he should be judged for the rules he broke and accept the punishment.

Hopefully he is mature enough and has the support from his fellow players, management and family and Mayo fans and to learn from it and not put him off applying himself to the sport.

Ok, so he'll probably miss his club championship whenever that kicks off again. Big deal. These bans (like McStays) are worthless when the championship is already over for the year for the offending parties county.

The word witch hunt or similar words have been all over social media (ie facebook, twitter) whenever the incident was brought up the last 24 hours and people discussing what he did.

I obviously was just speaking about a consensus by many people .

Don't try to read into this comment that I am launching a tirade of judgment at the chap, I am just stating that it is fair game to discuss the incident and the ban it merits w/o people using these sort of deflective statements to halt the discussion by saying he is only a young lad (he is 20)

Once something pops up on your phone it can be hard enough to unread. I don't follow these pages but they appear every now and again when people are tagged/comment etc.

Every county has them. Probably shouldn't have given them oxygen in fairness.

Its one of the problems now which has given everyone the ability to be a critic (I'm including myself!) without those reading having any idea if the person is in fact knowledgeable in the area or not.
Idiots always existed but were consigned to pub corner or school yards. Now they have full access to other counties fans and players.
Just listening to how Jame H and Eamon Fitz got abuse and letters in the post. People rang Kevin Keanes parents after the final against Donegal and gave their "opinion", he got abuse on the street.

Banter pages are trolls with internet access. Some are good in fairness but they attract other fans who just troll. Same as some of the main pages of Joe.ie, RTE.ie etc. Most of the Mayo articles are first commented by other counties.

Ignore them, they won't make u happy

Thats why the ignore button is so good on boards.ie

U20 was disappointing, we had the game for the winning with some poor shooting and that goal chance. Hit the post, bar and hawk eye but Kildare we excellent. Some fine players there.

Rochford seems to be staying, so will be interesting times ahead.

Jesus Christ. He is about 20 years old. He wrongfully pushed a ref out of frustration. He'll get his suspension, serve it, hopefully learn, and move on as a more mature footballer.
