I've always talked about it being the place to go to see a movie. I have this thing in me that wants to try and stop them doing this. There is a lot of history there.

Unfortunately, it is not (and this was pointed out to me by a senior member of staff) The new Screen 1 does not extend in length down to the front of the original auditorium where the original screen was located. This is to accommodate Screens 11 & 12 and an emergency exit network for the new auditoriums.1. The floor of the new Screen 1 (the bottom of the screen) is at a higher elevation relative to the floor where the original screen was located. 2. A suspended ceiling complete with black ceiling tiles have also been fitted, this would reduce the overall ceiling height. How much? usually, there needs to be adequate access above the tile to allow for maintenance for lighting and other services etc. The way I see it, I have too much emotional attachment to the place and so much fond memories going there with friends both living and dead that I cannot go back again.

The centre photo is the new installed corridor leading from the foyer to screens 1,11,12. This corridor is located between the entrances to screens 9 & 10 which are the original entrances to the old screen 1.http://ctsgroup.ie/news/completed-works-on-savoy-cinema Dublin's premier cinema

I recall that you used to go upstairs, then there was _another_ set of stairs taking you up to 3 screens, the middle one of which was Screen 2 (the second biggest in the cinema, AFAIK). Now it takes you up to _4_ screens - I assume Screen 2 was also split into 2. But the cinema to the left at the top of the stairs, Screen 5, is unchanged from the old days. Going to sound like a verse from "Rare Auld Times" but cinema trips aren't the same these days, are they? The gulf between cinema and home viewing used to be so much bigger (70 ft screen and surround sound vs 12 inch mono TV). P.

It was in Screen 13, a tiny little room up some narrow stairs after you go up the main stairs. Going by this thread, this might have previously been Screen 7. The sound was awful and the room and screen were tiny. It was in no way a cinema experience and they have a cheek to be charging full price for tickets.

From the entrance of the Savoy cinema it looks like it's just three, with the entrances to screen 9 and 10 now occupying the original doors to the old screen 1 (which at one stage I thought ... Well OK maybe it's not too bad) but when I bought a ticket for the new screen 1, walked along the new wide corridor and approached the entrance I found that it branched off where the new screen 1 door is located. As far as I am aware there is the new screen 1 in the middle and another two cinemas either side at that junction of which I am not sure what they are numbered. The entrances of which cannot be seen from the outside. From reading some of the responses on this forum, I am quite surprised that people are happy with the changes made by IMC, personally I think they destoyed the unique experience that was the old screen 1 and replaced it with some nice seats (and when I say the old screen 1 I mean in it's glory days). Please remember IMC stopped investing in the old screen 1 long before it was subdivided because of their plans, hence it's condition towards it's end. I cannot understand why on two occasions Paul Ward pledged to the media that the screen would not be touched, it was one of the biggest 2.35:1 scope screens in the country and yet it was removed. If anyone from IMC has any knowledge of why, please share with this forum as I am really curious.
