Welcome to the Waterford GAA discussion thread.

This is consistently the most active thread don the GAA forum. As a result, discussion can get quite heated. But there are certain things posters must realise are simply not OK to post:

- Personal abuse of anyone be they other posters, players, managers, referees, pundits etc. Any personal abuse will result in an infraction or a ban.

- Rumours about players'/managers'/anyone's personal lives. This should be self explanatory. Apart from being a dickish thing to do, it can lead to legal trouble for Boards.

- Trolling. Again, self explanatory. Trolls will be banned for a long time.

- Accusations of trolling. Report a post if you suspect it to be trolling. Do not call a troll out on thread as this will be considered back seat modding.

- Speculation into the identity of another poster. This is a site-bannable offence.

This list is not exhaustive. Either myself or another mod may add to this as we see fit. Just because a certain behaviour isn't listed, doesn't mean you can't be banned for it. The general Boards.ie rule of Don't be a Dick always applies.

If you feel a post breaks the rules, simply click this underneath the post in question to report the post and a mod will deal with it as they see fit.

So be civil to each other and happy posting.

Given that the thread regularly descending into tit for tat insults between posters, From now on, it won't be a card but a ban straight away for anything like this. The mod warning is clear in the first post but yet people still ignore it.
Also, I'd like to remind people of the ban on discussing players'/managers'/officials' private lives without any substance. You can be getting into libelous territory there. So a zero tolerance policy will be enforced as well.

Pat Ryan has ruled himself out. Pressure on him from within Cork, if he wants to be Cork manager (which could come up as soon as Sunday), he was advised not to take the Waterford Job.

Back to square one now, and whoever is approached will know they are only a second choice.

If it’s true and Mattie Kenny was also under consideration then every effort has to be made to make him our man.

Hope it's not true but find it hard to believe that you would risk a sure thing over a "potential" shot at the cork job. Why would Meyler not be given another year btw if Cork lose? Does he only want it for one?

If interviews did take place and Pat Ryan was offered the job and has decided not to take it and other applicants have been told sorry than we are going to look foolish going back with our tails between our legs to some of these applicants and offering them the job

Can see a local getting it now just for conveinece ??

Who says interviews took place? If this 'news' proves anything it's that a lot of posters here who claim to have inside information actually know sweet f all.

Bookies suspended betting and papers were reporting on it. If it was an unfounded rumour, then it certainly gathered serious legs!

Was more than a rumour, he definitely has had a change of heart though so we’re back to square one.

For what it's worth, I've seen him having lunch in the Granary a lot so it may mean nothing that he was in the Granville.

So we’ll be looking outside again for a new Manager I’d imagine but realistically there aren’t too many options bar Mattie Kenny? Forget about DJ and Cummins and Daly, they’re all non runners. I can’t see Paddyjoe employing from within.

Ah here, this is what happens with out of county options. We're always a plan B or a stepping stone to their own county or just a salary.

Is there any actual official confirmation anywhere that Pat Ryan is not taking the job? I spoke to a couple of lads involved with Sars this week and they didn't know anything about any change of heart.

No but as we're all aware it's been widely reported on all mainstream media that he is expected to take the job yet nothing about him supposedly turning it down.

Everything is speculative at the moment. Until there is official confirmation of the managerial position we are non the wiser.

Pat Ryan had a change of heart and used the excuse of being unable to commit the necessary time as his reason for not taking the job. It’s his loss as far as I’m concerned as there is a great group of players there with huge potential and the Waterford county board were willing to give him a chance to manage at intercounty level. I suspect the lure of the Cork job in the future may had an impact on his decision and having to manage against his native county.

There’s hasn’t been much talk of him but I hope Mattie Kenny gets it now at this stage with selectors from Waterford who have managerial experience themselves at club or county underage level and the importance of a good coaching team in terms of fitness, s&c and obviously hurling is huge. I’m sure he would bring in a good team around him for these roles as I believe he did with Cuala.

Kenny has won 2 club All-Ireland’s and is held in high regard in hurling circles but having said all this, there has been no indication of whether he has any interest or not but I reiterate, it’s an attractive job.
