i have just moved into an area where there is an Aldi, i am not really familiar with the store, what do you recommend of their products.

That's something I would be more interested in than frozen from New Zealand... We ran a bit ot here, but hope the others don't mind. Good to know there are other options out there.

Yep, looks like that. Hopefully still to another Irish supplier, if not they can f off with the whole Irish blended packed etc.

It is the same in other departments with non Irish suppliers taking over and supermarkets, all of them, not just some, pretending nothing happened and waving Irish flags all over the shop.

Was hoping brexit will help Irish suppliers, so far it has opposite effect (the tea is just tip of the iceberg).

The names mean nothing in ALDI, McGraths tea could come from Germany next.

I remember when the Baron St Jean wine was first stocked, it was French, and ok.

Then they kept the name but sourced the wine from Spain. Haven't bought it since.

Despite my username, I am not really that fussy with wine but Jesus, that Baron St Jean was always rotten.

For an Irish firm, Valeo do seem like to throw production overseas for realistically minimal gain

If I'm going to be given Dutch tea (biggest producer of blended product for sale, so probably where its moved to) I may as well buy Lyons, there isn't an Aldi that convenient for me anyway

To be honest a few years ago I would have said it was bad but we've cut back on Aldi over the last year or two and just get bits and pieces there now.

I had it a while ago. It was ok.

Loads of chicken in it, that looked and tasted like it might actually have been pieces of real chicken, which was a surprise. Weighed a ton, loads and loads of sauce, which was only ok.

I'd say it's not the healthiest thing you'll ever eat, but I've had far worse!

Feckin loved McGraths Gold Blend.

Gone now and something unrecognisable is in its place. Bought something in a yellow box for the craic. But I have 180 ordinary McGraths to get through first.

We should complain! McG Gold Blend was brilliant. Well I tried to complain but there was no one in the store to say it to, not that the store manager makes these decisions either.

I am gutted I tells ya! What can I do now? weeps.

If you are on Twitter contact Aldi that way. I find they are very good to respond to tweets.

That's the way Aldi and Lidl work unfortunately. They have a brand for so long and then just stop buying from it or change its name and packaging. Maybe it has to do with avoiding creditors or maybe its other reasons.

Your much better off without them. I am on Facebook but its head wrecking compared to how it was 8 years ago and Twitter I tried twice but gave up. It would turn your brain to mush Twitter would. Not good at all. Can't even get into the profiles I had there now anyway lol. I forget the pass codes lol and am not that bothered about it either.

Personally I find supermarkets and butchers can be hit and miss with mince. It all depends on how it looks on the day.

I quite like the Black Angus 5% fat mince (sorry, I always go for the super lean stuff, I know most people don't), but I still prefer the supervalu extra lean 5% stuff overall. It's still good though and about €3.50 for 500g I think.

They have 18% fat mince now too, I made burgers with that before because the butcher is like a million miles away and I found it really nice.

I find all their mince excellent.
I get the lean stuff a fair bit. Good range of choice.

Not sure about the mince but their 5% fat burgers are the best of all the Supermarket own brands, in my opinion.

I buy the extra lean mince in Aldi as I find it much tastier than Supervalu and Tesco.
I find it has a more "meatier" taste and better value.

I buy the 8% mince beef for €2.49 in Aldi and I find it grand.
I wouldn't buy Tesco mince; it's all stringy and doesn't break up in the pan.

Gotta recommend the three-pack cheesecakes for €1.39.

The blackcurrant ones were delicious but not so keen on the mango and passionfruit. It had bits in it, which I don't like.

The chocolate-chip brioche for €1.89 is gorgeous too.
