Once the metro link plan begins construction will some of the trams that previously were allocated to the green line be moved to the red line considering the green line once split into two seperate spurs will be significantly shorter and thus would require less trams to opperate? Would he red line station be able to be lengthened to handle the now much longer green line trams? Is there much scope to create new spurs off the red line?

Not sure if too many will be moved over, to be honest.

If Metrolink gets built, the Green Line will be extended all the way out to Bray, and the other end of the Green Line will be extended out to Finglas (and possibly beyond). Those extensions will probably suck up most of any spare trams.

I think you might be getting a little ahead of yourself there. Fingers and toes crossed that the Metro will actually be built I assume what could be done is that the 3000 trams on the red could move to the green for the Sandyford to Brides Glen or hopefully Bray section where numbers won't be as high.

In 2027 all the 3000 class trams will be nearly 25 years old so they could be coming to the end of their life at that stage anyway.

This may be difficult at some locations like Busáras and George's Dock.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the future with the Red Line. It can't be upgraded in the future like the Green Line is being upgraded for Metro, and another extension to Poolbeg will add additional passengers to it.

Is there any projections as to when it will reach capacity. DART Underground if built may provide some relief for the city centre sections.

I presume if a Poolbeg extension is built then extra rolling stock will be needed for it?

Presumably but the Poolbeg section isn't to start construction until 2028 or after.

If in a dream world you had a metro sw line going out to tallaght, an orbital metro line akin to metro west and the dart underground with big park and ride facilities, you would have to say that the sw/west of the city would be well served. The current red line would supplement this nicely.
