Gintonious wrote: » Thats because he had no traction, he spins the wheel after and see the flashing lights which means "game over". He openly admitted it was a mistake on his part, he lost traction and ran wide. It's as simple as that.

billybonkers wrote: » You can see the wheels move as he turns the steering wheel immediately after the crash! And before the crash they do move, he locked up going over the gravel also after the back locked up. There is about 17 degree of steer on the car!https://youtu.be/nU5HG14_1Sk?t=11s At 11 seconds he moves the steering to the left and both wheels move

As silly as a mistake it might seem, I don't think people should be crucifying Vettel the way they are (especially, obviously, the Italian press). In these conditions, that kind of mistake could have happened to anyone - the fact it happened to a 4x WDC tells the whole story. It's literally a matter of a few centimeters, you hit a bit of water at a slightly different angle and you're skating. If anyone experienced it, that's one of the worst feelings you can have in a car, be it on track or on the road: once the grip has broken, the car goes straight and there's very little you can do. The worst is that, as in Vettel's case, it feels absurd as it seems to be happening in slow motion. The irony / misfortune of the circumstances: this happened in the old school section of the track, with grass and sandtraps. Had it happened elsewhere, Vettel would have just ran wide and continued.

Sometimes I'm not sure what's the worse approach - in the one of unconditional puppy worship the UK media has towards Hamilton (plus the ridiculous hostility towards anyone guilty of "racing while German", forgetting who their "hero" drives for), or the "win and you're the man, loose and you're sh1t" approach the Italian one has (towards any sports teams, has to be said - you should have read the articles after Italy failed to qualify for the Fifa World Cup :P).

Can any of us say we've never made a mistake in our jobs ? I can't, but the difference is if I mess up an e-mail there's not millions of people waiting to analyse and criticise, people who all apparently know everything about everything.
