Australia alone on a working holiday visa

Hey,

27 year old Irish guy here thinking of going to Australia, all of my my friends have done their traveling or are settled down so it would be alone. Just wondering if anyone has done this recently or if anyone is in the same boat?

Just do it. It's not as scary or as tough as you think it will be. You'll have a blast and not want to leave. Thats what happened to me 7.5 years ago....still here and made it home.

I did it on my own 10 years ago, it’s great you fall in with people constantly and aren’t beholden to anyone. If your loving somewhere you can hang around for a bit or don’t like it just move on without running it by anyone. Hostels are great for meeting people and often small groups are only too happy to have someone new to talk to. Go for it you won’t regret it.

Absolutely go. I had the same dilemma and really didnt want to miss out but all my friends had already gone while I'd been focusing on career or had ither halfs who didnt want to gom I took the plunge and just went - knew noone and organised nothing bar the flight and visa - it worked out really well . You meet all kinds of like minded people and people who have parted from their friends or groups are are travelling solo for the same reason. Go! You will have a ball. You will always wonder and regret it of you dont. Stay in a hostel when you get there (Sydney) and you will.meet lots of people and they will give you contacts or twll you where is good/bad for jobs/trips - I turned up and the girl in the hostel literally told.me.where to go,produced a map, organised bus timetables and got me going! Cape Tribulation and the great barrier reef boat charters were the best parts -and brilliant for meeting people as its all on backpackers circut! Go - there will be up and downs and a few occasional days of OMG but you will regret it forever if you dont go. Its a definate not to be not done thing!

I went on my own in February 2017. To be fair, I wasn't really going for the holiday. My industry is highly specialised and it's really tough to get work in Europe so I went to get work where it was abundant. I stayed for nearly a year and left when I was offered a job back home.

Australia is alright, lots of pros and cons but the being alone part wasn't the hard part. Go for it.

when you get there you'll probably spend first week or so (at least) in hostel. You'll meet loads of backpackers, people in same boat etc.

If you're thinking of staying on, maybe get your farm work done early unless you work in field you think you could get sponsored

But do it, great experience

Didn't do it alone but if you play football then there is a great social circle in most cities, Sydney especially. You'd have no bother meeting people so I'd say go for it.

Hey Darragh! I'm sort of in the same boat, either all my friends end up backing out of the discussion or are too settled to even consider it. I'd be hoping to be heading over this time next year. Will probably go over on the WHV and aim to get sponsored if I like it.
Have you a timeline in mind for going?

Hey, working away from home at the minute so my aim is to try get home so I can start saving and then probably like yourself go this time next year all going well! Have you anywhere in mind?

I'm not positive on where yet, but I reckon I'd probably rule out Sydney. Think it would be between Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne! Have you an idea of where you'd head?

So close to submitting the application on the WHV, but keep thinking I should have more organised/looked in to before I do it.

I have Perth in my head, my brother and my housemate lived there and loved it and a friend of my friend lives there and intends on settling there.

Haven’t even thought the far to applying for the visa. I suppose my main aim is to try get work at home so I can save!

You must keep me updated on how everything goes for you anyway

I'm just sitting in work and constantly thinking about heading off so I'll probably apply at the beginning of October! Do my research from now till then so at least I can get straight to planning and booking once the visa comes through!

Hi guys, I'll be moving to Melbourne in two weeks any advice?

On a working holiday visa too, booked into an airbnb for the first week in brunswick but have absolutely nothing planned after that, any advice and tips welcome
