We’ve added a decent midfielder, how much that improves us is debatable, and a right back who will probably not be much better than Valencia. I think the clubs ambition will be tested in the next few weeks. We need to sign a player in that top bracket of forwards to have any chance of putting it to city but that seems an impossible ask at this stage of the window.

Re CB, I would rather not sign any CB than paying 70 million for Alderweireld. He is a great CB, no doubt about it and it's not my money but club should be sensible with the money. They can't keep investing huge money on older players. He had injury issues and he is 29. Save the money, add few more million and we can sign Skriniar next season. We need a right winger more than in any position. Btw, Matic and Sanchez are with the team now, Sanchez will play in the second tour game according to Jose.
AidoEirE wrote: » Im really struggling with this comment. Youd rather not sign a solid CB and save money for next season. WTF is stopping us this summer. Injury issued yes, but he was by far the best CB in PL before it and now clearly wants a move..... Stick with a jones (injury prone) smalling( cant judge a header) rojo(liability) We have bailly who looks immense before his injury, Lindelof who every will always ask that question is he good enough. Last 2 need a solid vidic character beside them. But well wait till next year..
Giggsy11 wrote: » Skriniar won't leave this season, so it's better to wait rather than overpaying for one more injury prone player. We can't keep on signing big money CBs every summer, we are not City and backed by state. We have limited funds and have to see where we need to invest properly. People are too quick to forget how good Bailly was when he was fully fit, Smalling has been part of defense that was best or second best for last 4 years. Also paying 50 million more for a player to sign him year before is madness, we are not talking about 5-10 million, 50 million, that's more than double the amount Barca paid to sign Umtiti. Also hard to ignore "just injury issues". It's a big reason not to spend big, especially for a player who can be signed for 25 million next summer.
AidoEirE wrote: » What big money signing CB have we signed? We have a huge amount of cash to spend, so many lads at this club are over paid, if at any other club they would be on half on what theyre on now. Bailly was surreal, not the argument. Smalling cost us more than saved us. The guy cannot judge a header. Itll be more than a year, alderwireld has played plenty of games. Have you rosed tintes glasses on? Jones never lasts a full season for the last, what 5 years we've had him, but jump on alderweireld who was crooked half a season last year. And you want to save money for some lad thats beem bang average in italy. What happens if skriniar has a **** season while we wait?
Giggsy11 wrote: » We are not paying 75 million on Jones, he is already our player and should be shipped off, doesn't mean we have to add one more injury prone player for big money. What sort of logic is that? Since we already have a injury prone player, it doesn't matter if we sign one more injury prone player? Difference is 50 million ffs, Spurs wants 75 million. A player who had injury issues and can be signed for 25 million in 2019. Using your logic, what happens if Toby is injured for whole season? At least with Skriniar we will look for alternate targets. Smalling can't judge a header? That's the most ridiculous thing I have read on boards. He loses his marker like any CB does from time to time, but can't judge a header? When that's his strongest attribute? And you want us to sign Toby who is weaker in aerial duels.
AidoEirE wrote: » Your a new level of moving goal posts, from where started
AidoEirE wrote: » So back to point 1 where we started. Youd rather not add to the defence till next year?
Giggsy11 wrote: » What goal posts are moved? See if the option is 75 million for Toby then yes. I have already stated the reasons . If for 75 million we can't find a better CB who can improve us, then our whole scouting should be shut down. If Jose cant think of an alternative, then he should reconsider his ideas. Toby is very good CB, no doubt about it but we are risking paying 50 million more for a player just to land him 1 year before. You can sign a very good CB based on scouting and then sign him next year for 25 million. Also it's very important to sign RB, LB, RW than CB. It's not even close. All top teams are signing very good CBs for good price and also younger ones but we are the only team who can't sign a CB for less than 75 million or anyone apart from Toby. It's just laughable that people think money is not a problem considering how much we have spent in last 3-4 years.
AidoEirE wrote: » Regarding goal post's hand's up my bad, but the comment saying you'd rather not sign a CB this summer when its very much needed gets me. The fact youd wait till next year to do so leads me to believe your happy with what we have when its not. Smalling never even made the WC squad. Its been pointed 100's times of the liabailty he his. If you think he's good enough then, **** me. A new signing could ship any of the cb's out, but lets bet real, smalling is not good. DDG has made him look good
Giggsy11 wrote: » Well you keep on ignoring the reason. We have to overpay by 50 million to land Toby this season. Why can't we sign any other CB? Someone younger, not injury prone? If we are going to judge players based on making world cup squad, lets not forget Young is a world cup semi finalist whereas players like Fabinho, Sandro didn't even make the squad. Southgate wanted players who are good on the ball, so fair enough. You don't rate Smalling and going by your posts you think he is a liability, I don't, I rate Smalling. Can we do better? Obviously but he is ManUtd's best CB when it comes to defending and more important than anything not getting injured every alternate game. You think ManUtd have unlimited money so can just throw money easily, I don't. I think we have budget and can't waste it. I don't even think CB is priority position when we have bigger gaps in fullback position and non existent right winger in the squad. Edit: Don't get me wrong here. I rate Toby very highly but we should take advantage of the situation rather than helping Spurs with 75 million. If we can get him for reasonable price then we should be all over him.
AidoEirE wrote: » You dont have to bold bud, but your original comment was to hold on to next year for new cb's such as skri..(spl) You cant judge a price now for your player and say wait and get him for the same $$. Its contradictory to distinguish a balancing point for me to argue with. I can argue that our CB's arr not up to scratch
AidoEirE wrote: » As in you cant say skri is worth this year, yet we should watch our spending, Compared to pay 60mil for toby a top PL performer who was only injured for half a season. Toby prices go down next year, you wait a year, skri will go up. Literally makes no sense. Apologies on your def name, useless at the phone replies
Giggsy11 wrote: » Yes and I also said it's foolish to spend 75 million for a player, who can be signed for 25 million nest year. The CB you are so desperate is not a 50 million improvement.
Giggsy11 wrote: » Skriniar won't be sold at any price this season. His price will go up next season but we can't do anything about it this season. What we can do, save money and spend on Skriniar and Toby next season. Spending 75 Million on Toby + 75 million on Skriniar is madness when you can get them both for around 100 million next season. If we can't find a better CB than we have without spending 75 million on 29 year old injury prone player then we should shut our scouting. Simple as that.
AidoEirE wrote: » Where are you getting 75mil from? The CB you want, we'd have to wait for another year
Giggsy11 wrote: » That's the reported fee in papers and if you are asking that question now then you are just replying without even reading the post. I said we should sign Toby for reasonable price, not for 75 million.

Didn't watch the first preseason games only the highlights but I was happy to see Martial taking lots of shots, Shaw also seemed to be playing quite high up the field.
