I find a lot of the discussion in AH about gender specific issues can be quite toxic, mainly due to a small number of trolls and **** stirrers who are dead set on derailing discussion. Resulting in quite a negative vibe that seems to put the sexes against each other.

Please treat this as a celebration of women who you admire and respect for their achievements.

I work in a fairly male dominated industry but have had the privilege of working with a number of really inspiring female colleagues over the years. I’ve also encountered countless dedicated, hard working professionals in the health service, teaching and other such professions.

In the public eye, I would put Mary Robinson, right up there along with Adi Roche.

So AH. Who are you favorite female role models?

Just being "megarich" or a "tv personality" is a rubbish basis for being a role model surely.

She is a very impressive lady. I like her common sense, not bothered about political correctness approach. Could do with a few Judge Judys in Ireland

I have been blessed with a small number of older women friends, who are still kicking it live, traveling, looking fabulous, ladylike yet able to climb mountains and skinny dip in the sea, not short of an opinion, talented and creative, delightfully girlish in their late years, and so on - it is this handful of adventurers who are my role models, and I'm incredibly grateful for them. In the more shallow celebrity line of things, I have always been impressed by Juliette Binoche, not only because she looks so lovely but because she is sparky and determined. As long as she is older than me and keeping cool I feel some hope!

The women I admire are the.... getting up and getting on with it types, so in particular order one of my sisters who despite having horrendous things happen to her husband and will spend her life looking after him she just gets up and gets on with it no feeling sorry for herself no woe is me.

One of the bosses I had while not perfect just got on with it and was a very nice person.

Angela Merkel no fuss, no drama and just gets on with it.
