How would an attack on Dublin from Islamists change us?

Legally and socially?

Legally -guards would carry handguns like the Americans. More surveillance in real life with CCTV's at every corner and spying on natioanl sites

Socially - paranoia would run rampant and we'd for the first time ban immigrants like Trump (or at the least stop them if they're not white and from the West). Definitely become more nanny-statish to levels never seen before.

What else would change?

It would have to be a massive attack for anything to change. Just look at that thread from a couple of months ago about the illegal Indian immigrant who trained to be a guard. Most of the people responding couldn't wait to prove how liberal and tolerant they are by saying things likes "ah sure at least he wanted to contribute to society".

I thought myself it was highly suspicious. He must have had some motivation for joining the guards that he considered worth risking being deported for.

Around the same time some maniac drove up on a footpath in Dublin. There was a thread about it and peoples main gripe was that the article mentioned his parents were from the Middle East and that this was terrible racism.

Something along the lines of the attack in Manchester would have to happen for the general public to start worrying.

There are already terrorists here by the way. The guards have foiled a couple of terrorist groups. Their main aim though is usually to get to into Ireland then travel to somewhere else in Europe. I'm sure they will eventually turn their sights to an attack in Ireland. I wouldn't think it would be their top priority but it would be foolish to think it's never going to happen.

Seems with all those treads on the subject that many people here are feeling slighted by them.

Probably nothing would change as its unlikely to occur and if it did occur is most likely a once off lone wolf attack that no amount preparation can help stop
I think some poeple want it to occur for some drama and to hate on muslims with more justification

I think the people who think American have something to gain from the constant talk of Terrorists are correct,
i read an article where 2 weekend's ago, 28 people where shot in the city of Chicago, that made it 1400 shooting in Chicago this year and its only July,
So in 7 months in one city 1400 American's have been shot ( that is injured by shootings not killed)
Just to put that into perspective, 1500 USA troop have been shot and killed since 2011.
Trump has done nothing, as he really has nothing to gain from these poor black folk in his own land,

I think it would be unlikely for a terrorist organization to send their top operatives to Ireland. So what will probably happen is that they will send their equivalent of Hermann Görtz (read the story -- very funny!), a Nazi spy sent to Ireland in 1940.

A Saudi Arabian drove up on a footpath in Dublin recently. I don't think he seriously hurt anyone but he gave it a good shot. There was a thread about it here and people were complaining that his ethnicity or religion shouldn't even be mentioned. No one wanted to know that he was a foreigner, let alone even entertain the idea for a second that it could be a terrorist attack. I'm not saying it was one, but the idea of even debating that it might be was seen as offensive.
