All the bills, mortgage, shopping etc come out of the joint account. Then we have our 'own' money to buy what we want to buy. I don't want to be running stuff by her if a fancy piece of electronic equipment catches my eye and I'm sure she feels the same when she see (another) handbag that she simply must have. We've always done this, so it doesn't really matter if one of us is earning more than the other, and that has varied over the years, we both have the same 'disposable' income as each other and aren't worried about having to keep track of who owes who what.

I keep a few quid for my lunch and just put the rest in the wife’s account. I honestly couldn’t tell you how much a esb or car insurance is. If I want anything I just buy it off her card but never really want much. A few beers at the weekend usually keeps me happy.
