What Whisky/Whiskey are we drinking this month?

I know there's a thread on recommending Whiskeys/Whiskys but there's none on general tasting as far as I can see.

Similar premise to the beer thread, but we'll say month instead of week as drinking a €50/60 bottle of Whiskey/Whisky a week is probably not a good idea...

I picked up a bottle of The Glenlivet Master Distillers Reserve on my travels recently. No age statement.

Not the most complex Whisky in the world. It's quite nice though, smooth and fruity, very strong taste of pears, and a tiny bit of spice. Drank with a splash of water.

www.camelcamelcamel.com is the way to go. i have alerts setup for a target price set by me for all my favourites.

Just came home from the airport today and picked up two bottles in Budapest.... surprisingly dear country for Whiskey tbh.

I got a litre bottle of Talisker Single Malt(e44ish)...actually thought it was the 10 year until I opened the box and a Nikka Blended for e36.

Was torn between the Barrell strength as I loved that after my last trip but sided with volume this time.

Just finished a bottle of Jameson Black Barrel... Was nice... Not quite redbreast but great value when it was on sale

Opened a Nikka Taketsuru...very good... First try at Japanese... Wouldnt put me off buying another

Opened a bottle of Dunphy's Irish Whiskey last night. Not had this before, but its more than decent especially when you can pick up a bottle for the low 20euro mark. I was sipping it neat, the OH was drowning it in coke, we were both happy with it.

Picked up a bottle of Green Spot - lovely drink - got better the longer it was out of the bottle - same price range as Redbreast - Redbreast might get the vote ahead of it - will have to try a couple more to further test

I travel to Budapest regularly... I always found the Duty Free quite competitive....Always ended up with a litre or two of Caskmates for half nothing

Definite taste difference between the two. I'm not great at ID'ing whiskey flavours, but I seem to get an anniseedy/liquorice twang from the yellow.

I favour the Green. A smashing whiskey.

I probably have a preference for Red Breast but I'm hoping to be swayed

I'd agree, the Green Spot is fantastic.
The Yellow Spot is a lovely whiskey too, smoother than the green, but imo not worth the premium above the green

I certainly wouldn't turn down a freebie of it if I was offered but those are my thoughts exactly - nowhere near worth the cash premium.

Rather than Yellow, I'd much prefer a bottle of RB Cask Strength or 15.

Had a sup of Redbreast 21 this week for a wee celebration, my god its great stuff!

And had a dram of Paddy Centenary last night, only one or two measures left of that

. Very nice and showcases what the Paddy brand roots are.
Lovely pot still with spice and plenty of fruit.
Unfortunately very difficult to come across it any longer.

I think Yellow spot is more to the profile of someone who enjoys RB.

Then there's powers johns lane release which is a very similar profile to yellow spot and slightly cheaper.

Thinking in terms of % increase per $ doesn't make sense for most things and most definitely doesn't make sense for whiskey IMO

If you can afford it, like PS whiskeys, have a crack of it sure.

I love the Yellow Spot, definitely try it, make your own mind up.

Today I bought a bottle of Speyside Single Malt in Aldi for €24.99. Marketed as Glen Marnoch or something.

Its a bit rough around the edges but certainly very good for the price. I wouldn't be rushing to stock up with a load of bottles of it but it is very drinkable, I'd probably prefer it with a drop of water but worth a try if you come across it.

Tastes like gin to me,had a taste of juniper in my mouth for an hour after. Massively overpriced for a 5 year old whiskey.
