Anybody know the range of the Winchester Super Magnum Rimfire to cleanly kill a fox. That is the .17 Winchester Super Magnum Rimfire.

I assume you mean the .17 winchester super magnum?(17WSM) Well at 250 yards it still has 155ft/lb cant seem to find any info on further distances so it can definitely kill a fox humanely at that distance

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to get the relevant information from someone that has experience with using it on foxs. Hard to beat experience for a proper feedback.

You may have to look up some of the uk or us forums for info on 17wsm.
Id be very surprised if any have made it over here yet. Anytime ive mentioned it in a dealers ive been met with the look of confusion and "Whats one of them? Never heard of it."

It is a round that would be of great interest to me thou should it become popular here.

Had 1 last year. Went for the Boyd's thumbhole stock version. Didn't make any difference. Rifle was fine but the ammo was all paper. Different charges between bullets. Hornady Winchester and American eagle sell ammo but it's all made by Winchester just rebranded. You might get lucky however ammo is questionable and a lot of the rifles are also. Plenty of info online. Plus be prepared to clean maybe every 30 rounds or so as it copper fouls like a batch.

Typo..groups were spread all over...groups were inconsistent ranging from 1 inch to 4 inches with regular flyers out further. Killed two foxes at 80 yds but stopped using it increased potential for wounding and runers etc. Theres plenty of info on ytube about it

Would a change of ammo be of any use. If you can get a change of ammo. If you got a 1" group surely it could be repeated. It is suggested that you bed the action to help with accuracy. Maybe you didn't put enough ammo through it in order to give the barrel a chance to settle down. Which brand of rifle did you purchase.

Action was bedded...in region of 800 rounds through it...poor ammo..nothing else to say on the matter

I’ve zero experience with the caliber so my opinion is worth very little. If I wanted something like it though I’d go for a .17 Hornet.

Ammo is far more expensive 25 euro for 50 17wsm , compared to 20euro for 20 .17Hornet at that price id rather be shooting a .223

Used a .22 hornet for donkeys years and flattened loads of foxes with it. Any love for the old hornet anymore ?

17 calibre are hard on barrels and if cleaning is not regimental then your going to suffer.
Poor ammo an inconsistant primers can open up groups drastically..
