This is one of the most active forums on Boards.ie. As a result, discussion can get quite heated. But there are certain things posters must realise are simply not OK to post:

Disappointing obviously, but some part of me thinks thank f**k we are out now instead of going on further and possibly end up losing another final. That scenario was getting to be well nigh unbearable at this stage. Great adventure since 2011 with these lads. They don't owe anybody anything.

Honestly, I was a bit fearful of the Super 8s.

Too many question marks against the team this year.

Andy was always going to find it very difficult to repeat last years form.

Cillian wasn't at his sharpest either, he had some injury problems too.

Everyone knows losing Tom, Seamie and Harrison had weakened us.

Regrouping might be the best thing in long run.....although hard to take right now

Fair play to Kildare for performing.... after all they've been through this week

If a county feels it`s ground`s capacity are suitable for their own needs I would not see why they should feel the need to go into debt to facilitate visiting teams.
Dublin`s county pitch doesn`t have the capacity to handle the vast majority of even their games, so should not the same apply to them ?

Hard luck today, but after that result the GAA will have fun attempting to change venues based on ground capacity.

Better team won. Our lack of midfield options was going to get found out eventually. Better to go now than get wiped out later.

Yeah don't think we were going to go must further than the Super 8's this year anyway. It will be good for the players to get that break both mentally and physically.

Hard luck to mayo.may the players enjoy a few pints tonight and relax for the summer.they have serious mileage done this past few years and owe nothing to anyone.you wouldn’t know the rest could do them good and freshen the heads.

I wonder if Rochford will be back for another year? I rate him highly but I just don’t know if he can take this group any further now. The dreamer in me wants to see Horan back for one more go at it with the same group but that’s unlikely for a lot of reasons and I’m not sure if he could do anymore than Rochford has.

Could be a difficult rebuild ahead with all the injuries and possible retirements.

Club Championship in July... some fitness regime's will be quickly adjusted throughout the County.

Some of these guys could definitely do with a summer off for sure. Hopefully it will bring them back with a renewed hunger in 2019.

The downside is, with an ageing team, how many will call it a day now?
Andy, Higgins, Clarke, Boyler to name a few.....a lot of the miles on the clock there

That said, those guys owe us nothing and have worn the Mayo jersey with great distinction

I'd say Andy might hang up the boots. He's on the go a long time now and has a lot going on personally with a young family and his own business.

Very disappointed to see mayo go out, you've been one of the only teams to pose a serious challenge to the Dubs in recent years.

Hopefully the early exit gives your guys time to recharge and freshen up... They definitely deserve the few months off.

The business is only high profile because he is on the mayo squad. Business will drop when he hangs up the boots.

The last 2 kickpits showed we were going nowhere for rest of summer anyway
Press up and we had to kick it long to a tired midfield pairing there for the whole game

As a Dub supporter I’m delighted to see the back of this Mayo team. Always brought their A game against us and were only a kick off a ball away from beating us on more than one occasion.

Sad to see the Mayo supporters out at this stage though. Always brought a great atmosphere to the games and travelled the length amd breath of the country following the green and red.

Who know what lies ahead but with SOS amd Parsons back next year you’ll be a better team for it.

We were on borrowed time anyway without them, imo. There's no way we would have been able to handle any of the bigger teams without our first choice midfield and we were never going to get an all-Ireland this year. Better to go now than get a hammering later tbh. They team look like they need a break anyway to freshen up and re-organise. Take a holiday or something.

A bit relieved honestly after so many long summers which ultimately end in heartache. Dublin haven't lost a home game in 4 years and that's unlikely to change any time soon, there's no value in deep championship runs for Mayo at this stage so we might as well get it over with early before any hope has built.
Very proud of the group of players and their efforts over the years, hopefully they'll find a bit more in the tank for next year.

Thank you mayo team, management and supporters. It was a great ride and god knows how many semi heart attacks along the way.

That's all true. I thought this would not be Mayo's year. I didn't think that last year and I don't think it will be the case next year either. Too many things didn't go the squads way this year. Best to go out now and get a rest.
There's life in this squad yet.

In my opinion, there is no way that this is better than going all the way to another final. There is nothing better than being in croke park all ireland sunday. I have savoured everyone of those finals and its always better to make it that far than not see croke park at all!

Very disappointed with today but well done to kildare they are a team with serious potential, and i hope this is what they needed to reach that potential.

On another note, please dont let this be another 98!!!!

I believe there's probably still life in them yet too. There might be one or two young ones that will be more ready next year too. James Durcan might come on a bit over the winter and I believe Akram from the U21s was involved in the development squad. A possible understudy for Boyler? Who knows. Probably too early to write anyone's obituary yet and I'd say most of them will take the rest of the year anyway to decide what they're going to do.

We were truly unfortunate with injuries this year and ended up having to improvise at midfield, which is just not really ideal. Seamie's and Tom's injuries were really freak incidents that no one could have seen coming. But it's been a long few years anyway. A lot of tired minds and bodies. Everyone needs a break, fans and players alike.

I stuck a few bob on Uruguay before the world cup anyway, so I at least still have someone to shout for this summer!

Rochford probably didn't do enough this year to freshen up the team. It would have been a much better sign if Mayo were starting Loftus & O'Donoghue & bringing on Higgins & Moran. However, the older players have been so so good in the past that it is hard to drop them. And question marks still hang over how good Loftus & O'Donghue (& others) are. Thought Kildare showed way more faith in their bench today as well - they seemed to make the changes quicker which was important on a warm day. I suspect we will see a new Mayo manager and possibly a change of captain next year.
