It seems like the hot weather can bring out the worst in us as a people, at the same time as it lifts our spirits and banishes the dark days of Winter to distant memory.
A good friend of mine who was an insurance broker back in the 1980s used to say that he dreaded the first few hot days of Summer, 'coz there were way more minor car accidents on that first day and for a few days afterwards due to the young wans changing their wardrobe from Winter clothing to Summer fashion leading to massive distraction on the part of the older lads on the way to work in their Mercs and Beemers and rear-ending yer man in front due to having been more focused on the footpaths to the side than on the roadway ahead. So that's an example of how the sparkle of a long awaited event can become sullied by undesirable effects.
A similar undesirable effect could well be argued to be the over- enjoyment of the first Summer days by small groups of over- indulgers at the expense of the enjoyment of those days by the large majority. We present the drunken antics of mindless gobsh!tes who feck it up for everyone else on the beach on a lovely Summer's day.
So the Guards are going to adopt a 'zero tolerance' approach to dealing with those yobs. And the local authorities are going to adopt a similarly 'zero tolerance' approach to leaving the filth and dirt behind ye all on the beach....
