Welcome to the Mayo GAA discussion thread - Chapter 3, yer trotting them out quicker than a Mills & Boon Romance !.

This is one of the most active forums on Boards.ie. As a result, discussion can get quite heated. But there are certain things posters must realise are simply not OK to post:

- Personal abuse

- Rumours about players'/managers'/anyone's personal lives.

- Trolling.

- Accusations of trolling. Report a post if you suspect it to be trolling.

Well Tyrone and Monaghan were intentionally kept apart because of a previous meeting I think. So all it took was Mayo to avoid the two of them (5 out of 7 chance) and they would all miss each other.

So the odds were always that they would end up separated.

Game might need to go to Portlaoise or somewhere?

All 8 teams went into the pot. They were going to deal with it if Tyrone and Monaghan came out together. Not exactly sure what their protocol was but all 8 went in afaik.

No guarantee obviously but I think it's the ideal draw for this stage. It will be tricky and that's what you want, it could have been worse and I'm not sure getting Leitrim would have done much good either.

It'll be a test and they'll offer similar headaches as Tipp. Hopefully we'll learn a bit from that.

There is plenty of precedent for games being moved to a different Leinster venue when ground can't take the crowd
Portlaoise would be my guess

I'll have to make do with gaa go but I'm confident I'll be coming back to a super 8 game in Croker now

I think its a tough enough draw, yes they lost all their league games but 3 of those were by the minimum margin. The Carlow result is a bit of an eye opener alright but this game si far from a given and even if we win could still face Cork or Roscommon in Rd 4, i wouldnt be overly confident of beating either of those right now. Super 8's is still some way off imo.

Sky have rights to a qualifier next Saturday evening at 7pm so im guessing it will be our match?

Kildare have done nothing in the last year that would suggest that they have any real chance in this game. SOS gone is an issue for us now but we have found a gem in James Durcan imo which gives us options in the forward line to move AOS into midfield. Rochford sees DOC as our other midfielder as he took him off late at the Tipp game to protect him. Its a pity for Coen but just not good enough at the moment ... can't beat his man and he always turns back when confronted.

Cafferky... What are peoples thoughts on Caff now? I think we have better options for the backs and he just looks like someone who is lacking confidence now IMO. Rochford certainly seems to have confidence in him but I thought he was done last year after the first Roscommon game.

I'm not sure about that

The script seems to be
Play him early, but then come up with an alternative later on when it really gets serious.

Mayo have been tighter at the back over the last few years when they don't play a "desnigated" full back.

That alternative has usually involved Vaughan in some shape or form, but Vaughan is not an option for a few weeks yet it seems so I don't really know what will happen in the next few weeks.

That's my take on it. Plenty to deal with considering our midfield worries and Flynn could cause havoc in there. It'll be interesting to see how we cope with him. Either Caff and Durcan on him and I'll be asking serious questions of the management.

On the other hand, if we get our running game going they are going to struggle big time.

Some saying they have agreed to the change. The capacity just isn't their in St Conleths Park. No way the GAA would agree to it there.

Why haven't they brought it up to standard and increased the capacity. Kildare is no small county and its amazing that they don't have a suitable ground.

But it is when the alternative is a ground that Mayo have excelled in in the last few years whereas Kildare are used of getting hidings from Dublin and Kerry there in the same.

Its a big advantage for Mayo.

Maybe if Kildare had invested in their ground instead of manager's "expenses" this annoyance could have been avoided.
