What does choice have to do with it?

When Trump leaves office it will either be Mike Pence due to him being forced out/resigning or an as yet unnamed Democrat who beats him in 2020, or 2024.

Its not like debating who you want to take over your sports team if the manager goes.

Would you like to discuss viable options for right now? As in, if Trump goes tomorrow or what?

Not content with taking kids from their families Trump has now decided that these people do not deserve the right of paw.

He has also further upped the rhetoric against immigrants by referring to them as an invasion. The point is clear, he wants to refer to these people as the enemy of the US. Same reason he highlights any incident by illegal immigrants, to put as much blame for the crime rate on them as possible in spite of the fact that they tend to be better behaved than the native population.

Desperate refugees are not an invasion force. They are not bringing tanks.

Yes they can bring some social issues which have been overblown to pieces by Trump but this is not a military matter. They are not villains and they are not enemies.

So Nox, any chance you are going to be able to answer the question about whether Trump was right to insist on the policy to remove children from their parents or whether he was right to reverse that decision.

Either he is being correctly tough on the invasion or he has, by his cowardice, opening the US up to invasion.

Which position is it?

If it is an invasion, then why 500+ days into his admin, has he not built the wall. Is that the actions of CiC who cares for his country? Imagine him during Pearl Harbour. 18 months later and all he has done is complain on twitter!

And this is the core problem with supporting everything Trump. You are left in totally contradictory positions. Either it is an invasion, and as such the US should be doing everything to stop it and thus Trump is failing in one of the most fundamental parts of his job and instead is busy going to rallies and fundraisers and paying golf. I mean, there is an invasion happening and he spent the weekend playing golf!

Or this isn't really as serious as he makes it out to be, which would give him reason to be so ineffective but makes him a liar.

The influx of refugees into Europe is not an invasion.

It is a humanitarian crisis.

OK, so lets deal with your issue then. Before we can accurately deal with it we need to first understand what you mean. What is your definition of invasion? Is it simply any group of people that you don't like or agree with coming to your country? Is it illegals? Does it need to involve any undermining of law and order?

Invasion, although it can be used to signify an occasion when a large number of people or things come to a place in an annoying and unwanted way, is used, particularly with Trump as he ties it directly with crime, to deal with agression.

But even parking that, again it goes back to why Trump is seemingly so ineffective in dealing with this invasion. Remember his 1st priority when becoming POTUS was muslims, not the South. After he failed on that he focused on Obamacare. He failed on that and then moved to tax reform. Yes he has talked constantly about immigration and do nothing practicle about it until recently. But even then, the policy he brought in he rowed back on straight away.

So taking at face value you concern for this invasion, why are Trump supporters not showing there disgust that the person who promised to deal with it seems to have nothing but PR stunts and twitter rants. Surely he is failing at the most fundamental job of POTUS, that of protecting the citizens of the US.

Apart from the obvious legal and authoritarian ramifications, what I think frustrates and highlights Trump's obvious lack of knowledge is the inherent contradiction within that single tweet: he talks of 'law and order', having literally just championed the idea of circumventing ... law & order. He can't get a single train of thought consistent - how can stable policy be established if a Tweet is beyond him?

There's always the struggle between the cold rationalism of any just legal system, and what amounts to mob justice or the "string 'em up" mentality, yet to have the President of the United States come down on the side of the mob IS dangerous - even if you agree with his position on immigration, there can't be a thin end of the wedge here, because the rule of law must be adhered to and applied. It's easy to champion the laws you agree with - anyone can do that - the trick is to defend the laws you DON'T agree with and peoples' rights to enjoy those laws, and that's supposedly the bedrock of the United States. This is the whole point of it.

No judges or court cases is precise totalitarianism; even illegal immigrants get their day in court, cos that's why they're called 'illegal' in the first place, right? Unless you want an Erdogan style 'democracy' (and again, some people think they do), checks and boundaries are required. Honestly? A rigorous solution is needed because I'm not sure I'm 100% behind people just walking across the border, but I'd still want those people treated fairly, justly and with dignity.

In any case: ISIS must be just laughing these days, because suddenly impoverished Central Americans are the Number 1 enemy of the US administration. And yeah, a US president talking about an 'invasion' is a bit rich. Americans have NO idea what an invasion looks like - and I truly hope they never do witness the actuality of that event.

Another big success for Trump last week. It doesnt seem to have been discussed much, although MSM news outlets did carry it, albeit on the inner pages.
The house passed the latest bill on the Opioid epidemic, I think its the 30+ bill on this issue passed in the last 2 weeks, although this bill is seen as all inclusive of previous bills, and recieved bipartisan 396 to 14 support.
Its a major step on reform to tackle this epidemic.

Many mom+pop voters in the US are very concerned about this issue and its impact on their young children and older family members. This is a big win for Republicans as they ramp up their machine for the mid-terms and they will take this strong message out on their campaigns.

Ah - the old "lyin' James Comey" line. Leaving aside the breathtaking hypocrisy of Trump calling anyone else in the entire work a liar, calling someone a name doesn't make it so, even if DJT and his supporters keep repeating it.

Trump threatened him with the existence of tapes that would contradict what Comey stated. Comey's story from the start, has been consistent, without deviation and with corroborated contemporaneous witness testimony in relation to being asked for loyalty, and guess what, when Comey replied "Oh Lordy I hope there are tapes"... there were no tapes. Comey wasn't lying. Trump was!

So you tell me, what did Comey lie about?

Of course the Trump suggestion, going against the constitution that he swore to uphold has some serious implications.

There was a recent story (can't recall the link) about a French teenager that whilst in Canada went for a run and ran across a non physical border into the US land and was picked up. Since they were out jogging they had no id etc and so they were arrested and detained. It took 2 weeks to get them out.

So how do you prove you are legal. is it based on the colour of your skin? Are US citizens now expected to carry ID everywhere they go? Will this apply everywhere in the US or just around the border? Where will they be deported to? If they refuse to speak can the US simply dump them in Mexico?

MAGA by getting rid of the legal system?
