Anyone any contacts for bonesetters in the NW?
Thanks.
You could try David Trenier. I will pm you his phone number. We had a nearly fit heifer a few years ago that put her shoulder out mounting another heifer. He came and got it back in but we had to keep her confined to a small bedded area and put a hayrack for silage/meal at her head level. She faded a bit initially but we got her away to the factory a few months later. She sort of threw the bad leg in a circular motion to take a step but she wasn't lame.
@tanko this is a long shot but do you have that lad from Cavan number Micheal woods. Have a weanlings hurt him self Thurs very lame. Not sure if it’s broken.
Unfortunately Michael passed away a few years ago, RIP.
sorry to hear that almost everyone that done this kind of work have passed unfortuntly
David torenir in belturbet done one for me 3 years ago. If he's still going. Have number if you need
See base had mentioned him 14 months ago above
he did a shoulder on a cow for me last year so I assume he’s still at it.
yes please send me his number. I have the weanlings in now in a deep bed
PM sent.
That’s a fracture above the hock, they can come, the heavy muscle on him should help as you’ve extra tissue around the break and will have plenty of blood supply. 🤞
I think the break is in the knee joint I have him in now and hopefully the more he lies the more recovering it will do. Il give him a chance anyway. Dosent seem to be in too much pain if he recovered which is a long way off I would expect him to still have a limp. But I could get him in the factory. Disappointed because he is my best weanling for this back end was expecting him to be popular with the shippers. Heifers calf aswel
When there is a dislocation it’s not as simple as popping it back in. You will have ligament damage and elasticity from the injury that is only fixable longterm and/or by surgery. 90% of the time it’s not a dislocation but a fracture or disc injury. I see endless posts on FB of lads looking for bone setters when the animal has a fractured stifle or blown out a disc causing leg drop.
That’s not to say people have not had great success with long term care and lucky enough the animal doesn’t pop it out again before the injury heals. Many an animal has been brought back to health through a bone setter but you need to be sure it is a treatable dislocation before you let someone starts manipulating the joint. That then involves a vet experienced in such problems which isn’t always possible.
