Clare GAA discussion thread

Thought I'd start this thread as haven't found one of the same.

So, 2010.. new decade... new beginnings? With the aim of the League being to get back into Division 1, could Clare also achieve success in Munster this year?

As well as a proposed friendly versus Cork, Ger O'Loughlin has a good load of matches to blood players from U-21's into the senior game. With the opponents in the League not posing a major threat some would argue Clare wont get as much preparation as Div 1 teams, but maybe it will give them an opportunity to focus on their strength and conditioning?

So, Clare face Waterford on Sunday at 2pm in Ballyduff Upper.. I think they should win against this weakened Waterford side, but I think it will be close tbh. But could Waterford topple us in the pre season tournament?

So the attention from a Clare GAA point of view turns to football this weekend with 3 Clare teams set to take to the field in 3 successive days. On Friday the U20 Footballers play their Cork counterparts in Pairc Ui Rinn for a place in the Munster final. Throw-in is at 7:30 pm. On Saturday, Clare take on Kerry in the Munster Minor Football final with throw-in at 4:30 pm. While on Sunday, the Clare senior team will face a potential banana skin when they take on Offaly in Round 2 of the qualifiers, who are under new management, with throw-in at Tullamore set for 1:30 pm. Best of luck to players and management for all teams.

Hope you all secured your tickets for the Munster final. Selling at a very fast rate apparently. Queues at shops all over cork and Clare....

Well they're not selling on tickets.ie at the moment anyway because the wait is over an hour and people keep getting timed out then when they do get as far as the option of picking tickets.

You are much better off getting to a shop if there is one near you, just got 4 tickets from my local centra

I always attend the matches as best I can keano but I think the difference with the sunshine supporters this year is that a sense of of belief in the team has returned. Don't get me wrong, I can't see anyone getting the better of Galway, but this Clare team is showing great heart and determination and I think that resonates with a lot of people

The Munster GAA site had the wrong link up, no wonder there was nothing up at 8.00am.
Went on Tickets.ie at 8.03 and queued for 43 minutes and it timed out.
Luckily a friend at work got me one, I also got one after 9 in SuperValu in Mallow after 15 minutes queuing.
The GAA are proper muppets.

Flew over to Centra after 9 and got 2 in the old stand right in the corner...

Came back and my PC had updated to tell me I'd be in a queue for an hour and a half.

45,000 at last year's Munster final.

People want to sit at at match so the out of the 26,000 seats that are there. About 15,000 would have went on General sale and were never gonna last that long with the demand.

Nothing wrong with a bandwagon. The important thing is that this team is now getting the Clare public back on board. It should lead to a great atmosphere Sunday week and hopefully a first Munster Final win in 20 years.

Funny how this time last week everyone sought to ridicule the Limerick 'bandwagon/hype machine'. The Limerick public were getting behind the team just like their Clare counterparts. We had beaten Tipp and Waterford and had a decent draw down in Cork, beaten simply by a better team last week, but all in all the public appreciate the effort and progress this year.
IMO, Clare are the team best equipped to tackle Galway this year.

If some people are jumping on a bandwagon I think that's a good thing. I'm still trudging along behind a hearse of despair to some degree. Feel Limerick didn't show at all last week and not sure it's because they weren't let.

I think Galways physicality would dominate Clare in most positions but no need to be concentrating on that just yet.

Munster Final is massive given benchmark vs last year. Hope Clare give a 60 - 70 minute performance and show that they are the real deal.

Great to see such interest in Munster Final at end of league phase.

TBH I feel that if Limerick travelled to Ennis in 3-4 weeks time Clare would still win. They are simply a better team with more/better marquee players.
Laughed at last week when I stated that any county with the likes of Conor McGrath,David Fitz,O'Malley etc on the bench with Shanagher injured are a serious outfit.
Limerick's 'no-show' last Sunday was down to Clare's attitude from the off.
Forget this 'fatigue' rubbish. That theory was well and truly put to bed last night with anyone watching the Cork/Waterford game. The Cork seniors on board shone brightly, none more so than Fitzgibbon who was brilliant from start to finish, scoring 3/4 points from midfield. What summed it up for me was the ball he won in injury time on his own 20 metre line, soloed to the other 20 metre line and gave a perfect pass for a Cork score.
This guy has played every minute of Cork's senior campaign so far, at midfield.!!

While there's certainly a lot more interest this year than there was last year I would put the low attendance last year down to the fiasco with tickets and the whole "meh" factor. Last year there was 19k at the semi final between Limerick and Clare, the same amount was at the same match this year even though it was on in Ennis, and before anyone says that there wasn't any more space in the ground I didn't hear of anyone not being able to get a ticket for last weeks match and there was some tickets available the morning of the game. For the final there was NO tickets available through clubs as the county board decided to not order any tickets, when people then went looking for tickets they weren't to be got. This year Clare people seem to be a lot more organised and have snapped up a load of public tickets while also having the club tickets to fall back on.

I'm getting sick **** of this rubbish that Galway will dominate Clare or Cork physically. It's not Rugby League and in fairness a lot of the Clare players are big men themselves and well conditioned. I think Galway possibly have more mullockers than the other contenders and that gives them a slightly better mix.

As puzzling as the final score turned out to be, it was nothing compared to the apparently sudden shift in strength and conditioning: instead of Tipperary setting that standard, as expected, Galway appeared to give them a lesson in absolute physicality, both on and off the ball

not a fan of bandwagons , think people should be a bit more patient when supporting a team , especially one that has achieved plenty of success over the last 5 or 6 years the support last year in thurles and this year in cork for the first round game were diabolical

i think the hype around galway might catch them , reckon limerick clare or cork will give them plenty of it if they met in croke park , wouldn't be holding my breath on them beating kilkenny too easy either

its far too early to be talking about all irelands yet , i reckon limerick will benefit from the break and the game against carlow or westmeath and bookmark a place in the semi finals , i wouldnt look into last week too much

Jaysus we are getting a bit ahead of ourselves talking about Galway, we aren't even guaranteed a run out in Croke Park yet, let's concentrate on Cork first, by gawd how sweet would it be to beat every other team in Munster in the championship
