What Whisky/Whiskey are we drinking this month?

I know there's a thread on recommending Whiskeys/Whiskys but there's none on general tasting as far as I can see.

Similar premise to the beer thread, but we'll say month instead of week as drinking a €50/60 bottle of Whiskey/Whisky a week is probably not a good idea...

I picked up a bottle of The Glenlivet Master Distillers Reserve on my travels recently. No age statement.

Not the most complex Whisky in the world. It's quite nice though, smooth and fruity, very strong taste of pears, and a tiny bit of spice. Drank with a splash of water.

Picked up a bottle of Green Spot - lovely drink - got better the longer it was out of the bottle - same price range as Redbreast - Redbreast might get the vote ahead of it - will have to try a couple more to further test

Opened a bottle of Dunphy's Irish Whiskey last night. Not had this before, but its more than decent especially when you can pick up a bottle for the low 20euro mark. I was sipping it neat, the OH was drowning it in coke, we were both happy with it.

Just finished a bottle of Jameson Black Barrel... Was nice... Not quite redbreast but great value when it was on sale

Opened a Nikka Taketsuru...very good... First try at Japanese... Wouldnt put me off buying another

Just came home from the airport today and picked up two bottles in Budapest.... surprisingly dear country for Whiskey tbh.

I got a litre bottle of Talisker Single Malt(e44ish)...actually thought it was the 10 year until I opened the box and a Nikka Blended for e36.

Was torn between the Barrell strength as I loved that after my last trip but sided with volume this time.

Picked up a bottle of Cardhu 12YO at Madrid Airport earlier for a mere €25.20.

A mighty fine whisky for a fine summer so happy days ahead!

Is it? I see people discussing Parcel Motel etc, but not specifically for the purpose of evading customs, and usually being told that it's against the company's T&Cs, which themselves are not the law.

Bottom line: it should be, and can be, legal to buy booze from abroad online, and as long as that remains the case it's a fair topic.

Oh my...what a drink. It has a lot going on, the smell and the taste are just outstanding. I think I have a new favorite. I need to get another bottle of this soon!

Yes.
Alcohol is an excisable product. Like tobacco and fuel. If Irish duty and vat isn't paid on it, it is being illegally imported. I know of no overseas vendor that arranges this with Irish Revenue, despite claims that some do.

I'm always amazed that Boards seem to allow the open discussion of illegal importation of alcohol - smuggling, if you like.

Wahoo result! DPD just contacted me to say they have it and I have a new tracking number. It's a present for a mate and can't be bought in Ireland, so I'm delighted it's ok.

Edit; I spoke way too soon. It has a tracking number but DPD say that it's also in customs. I sent a mail to importpolicy@revenue.ie . I can't seem to find a number anywhere that leads me to brenda.customs.

I had booze siezed by customs, via Parcel Motel once (I hadn't read their Ts&Cs).
I actually got a call from a customs officer who said I could collect it from Dublin Port, but would have to pay the import/duty or whatever.

Ended up costing me a fortune overall, but it wasn't ordered from the UK to save money, it was lack of availability in Ireland, so didn't feel toooo bad.

The company you bought it from messed up. Paying Irish VAT and duty was their responsibility and if they shipped the goods without doing the paperwork properly they owe you a refund. According to Revenue there is no way for consumers to pay what's owed on excisable goods shipped inside the EU.

Not looking good....... Most of the ways of getting booze from Europe without charges are now gone due to Customs crackdowns in my experience - my last continental wine supplier stopped shipping here recently.....if only people kept this stuff quiet!
