Welcome to the Waterford GAA discussion thread.

This is consistently the most active thread don the GAA forum. As a result, discussion can get quite heated. But there are certain things posters must realise are simply not OK to post:

- Personal abuse of anyone be they other posters, players, managers, referees, pundits etc. Any personal abuse will result in an infraction or a ban.

- Rumours about players'/managers'/anyone's personal lives. This should be self explanatory. Apart from being a dickish thing to do, it can lead to legal trouble for Boards.

- Trolling. Again, self explanatory. Trolls will be banned for a long time.

- Accusations of trolling. Report a post if you suspect it to be trolling. Do not call a troll out on thread as this will be considered back seat modding.

- Speculation into the identity of another poster. This is a site-bannable offence.

This list is not exhaustive. Either myself or another mod may add to this as we see fit. Just because a certain behaviour isn't listed, doesn't mean you can't be banned for it. The general Boards.ie rule of Don't be a Dick always applies.

If you feel a post breaks the rules, simply click this underneath the post in question to report the post and a mod will deal with it as they see fit.

So be civil to each other and happy posting.

Given that the thread regularly descending into tit for tat insults between posters, From now on, it won't be a card but a ban straight away for anything like this. The mod warning is clear in the first post but yet people still ignore it.
Also, I'd like to remind people of the ban on discussing players'/managers'/officials' private lives without any substance. You can be getting into libelous territory there. So a zero tolerance policy will be enforced as well.

50/50 on derek staying on

For- players respect the hell out of him, 2018 was full of bad luck with Injuries/fixtures so close together. Time on there hands to get planning/prep for 2019 up and running early and we have 1B to experiment in.

against- maybe its time for a change of voice, needs new ideas like Tactics, adding players to the squad, more experimental teams. Could end up being the same old ****e next year. Needs treat the league more seriously

I believe that the idea of the current management staying on is being led by some of the players . Apparently 9 players have indicated that they will be leaving the panel if the current management aren't staying on . Crazy stuff

I thought this was definitely Derek's last year?. If this is true and 9 players have threatened to leave the panel if current management don't stay on, what do they the players hope to achieve by this?. They should be allowed to leave if that is the case.

I agree with you. The guy who told me that this evening woujd be very close to a member of the panel and he would rarely tell you anything but he was raging at this

This is hilarious, "they should be allowed to leave", are u saying that someone can stop them leaving or disallow them leaving. GUBU stuff.

Its good indication that some players want Derek to stay but bad that Derek is the only reason there staying and it shows the influence he has

There is never any atmosphere in Waterford for a big match. Most of the supporters come in from the west and go straight to Walsh Park, and head homewards immediately after the match. Dungarvan has loads of pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance of Fraher Field, which also has space for a badly-need Centre of Excellence. Also closer to other Munster counties for Munster Championship games.

Board Failte and the Vintners Association should contribute or maybe build a new stadium so? County council can build a new multi story and museum for all the model T's.

Had heard the same thing but also that others are happy to see a new management team in place for next year. What will happen is the senior members of the squad will flex their muscle and threaten to withdraw their services that way forcing their squad mates/county board into leaving the current regime in place. We saw the mess this created in Cork when that stuff started to happen. Yes ask for an input from some of them but to be heald over a barrel by them? I don’t think so!

if the word on the street is true then its good news that DMG is staying on. prob freshen things up in the background with coaches and and selectors! the 9 that's stated above i believe that figure is higher talking to a clubmate of mine on the extended panel. its been driven by senior members of the panel. players meeting scheduled in the weeks after the Cork game.

Yes. If, the players are forcing Derek to stay then those same players should also be forced to play for at least 10 years each. Brick doesn't have to do this as he has already played for 15 years.

Bring in more yes men? That’s the last thing we need! Plenty of options that would BENEFIT the set up but will not be approached as their vision on how the team should set up would differ greatly to the manager’s view so alas, if he does decide to”freshen it up” then it’s more nodding donkeys that will be taken on board. As I posted earlier, yes the players opinions should be taken on board but under no circumstances should we be held to ransom by them.

Disaster season mcgrath must go even for the shambles of getting relegated in the league . Next year is going to be terrible for away supporters

A number of the panel are heading to the states I believe so that players meeting may have to wait.
Personally I think it’s time to freshen things up with a new manager. The players loyalty is admirable, it’s often that a manager is being chased out the door. I think Derek knew himself that this year was a risk after going so close last year but was drawn back by the players. It hasn’t worked out unfortunately, for a number of different reasons, but now is time for change.
I would hope that outside of maybe a retirement or 2 the players will row in behind a new manager. There’s always a risk of 1 or 2 dropping off especially with a change over but I wouldn’t expect anything near the numbers mentioned here to be unavailable. That’s provided we get the appointment right.
A poor appointment here could set us back a long, long way.

Why do the plans need to be 'future proof'? Building something that can be used now would be good.

And then in 10 years we will be stuck with the worst stadium in Ireland again...

Why dont they target the next RWC bid? Go to government and say we want to build a decent 30,000+ stadium and we need funds to do it. This will be another decent stadium in a city which can only help the bid. I know 30,000+ might sound excessive to some but this is what we should be aiming for, not a cellotape and plaster job of a dirthole.
