Joyces take over Nestors supermarkets

I feel sorry for those living in Fr Griffin Rd and Ballybane. I have been subjected to Joyces prices for many years in Tuam and Athenry. Oranmore and Doughiska are not too bad as there is existing competition.

Expect RG Data to pop up if there's any hint of new competition appearing to those stores too

Joyce’s Supermarket Group is set to buy all four Nestor supermarkets in Galway.

Nestor’s supermarkets, which are currently in receivership, comprise Super Valu stores at Fr. Griffin Road, Oranmore and Ballybane and Centra in Doughiska.

Joyces was established in 1951 and has stores in Headford, Athenry, Tuam, Indreabhán and Knocknacarra.

Once the proposed transaction is complete, the four Galway Nestor stores will be re-branded under the Joyce’s name.

Joyce’s said it will work with employees at the Nestor stores and additional career and promotion opportunities will be available to new and existing staff.

The deal will have to be approved by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

Which is why Joyces mouthpiece, RG Data, lodges objections by the bucket load anytime there is any mention of competition near any Joyces stores.

Not in the inside, but conversion with staff member told me turnover in Oranmore is down by about 50%

The competition was there before the takeover, Aldi is fairly new, Tesco and Lidi are there a long time.

The checkouts have been moved, but they still put too many customers through the off-licence/ cigarette counter checkout. The off-licence has been expanded and they have more craft beers in stock. Haven't noticed increased product lines throughout the shop, but I have been caught out by out of date items on 2-3 occasions.

Too many? Do you mean they should open more tills, if so, then it's probably a staffing issue, operating off a light base I'd imagine. Better range of water, speciality bread, ice cream, craft beer and their beef is much better than SV.

They may well have lost customers in certain departments but by god have they gained them in the off licence, a highly profitable department.
There's a massive selection of lines to choose from in any of the ones I've been in.

Looks like Joyces mouthpiece, RGdata, are now trying to block Lidl's expansion in Tuam, No surprise really, he utilises that group whenever he wants to stifle competition.

I just had a look in the app there. I'm in the west of the city. Looks like Supervalu Moycullen are delivering now from the site.
