You had a poor league and have lost to Galway again and have lost one of your most important players for the season. The only highlight so far is beating arguably the worst team in Ireland. It is quite arrogant to suggest that Tipp are no way near Mayo.

I'd imagine a lot of Mayo fans may not have had much opportunity to go to Thurles down through the years as well so that should be a nice experience - great atmosphere in that town for a match (for hurling anyway).

Then they were not embarrassed in an All Ireland SF In 2017 Tipp lost a game that they should have won to Cork , beat Cavan and then lost to Armagh. And this year they beat Waterford and got hammered by Cork In the meantime Mayo lost twice to Galway (early) and Dublin (late) and beat Fermanagh, Kildare, Westmeath, Tyrone, Tipp, Derry, Clare, Cork, Roscommon and Kerry, they also drew with Dublin, Roscommon and Kerry. Tipp are living on the reputation of beating Cork and Galway two season ago Mayo are living on the reputation of consistently going deep in the championship since 2011. It's not arrogance, it's reality, Tipp are nowhere near Mayo.

They did stage a comeback, we wouldn't have it any other way. But as being a Mayo fan goes, it was probably a game where we had the majority of our nails left, which isn't all that common for an AI SF.
PARlance wrote: » To be fair, the loss of Quinlivan early in the Cork game probably had a massive impact on that game and their season last year. Beating Derry by a point seems to be put up in a negative light, sure we couldn't manage that ourselves last year, in normal time. It's hard to quantify "nowhere near" but there are players that I would fear playing for Tipp. Their style probably suits us though and it would be a game that we should be expecting to win.

For the record I hate sledging and I hate off the ball play, everybody has work to go to the next day, but for some teams and individuals it is a part of their game. Bypass midfield, with long kick passing, take SOS and AOS out of it, tire them out and let them chase shadows all day long, a tired mind makes mistakes, one as simple as AOS taking on a 69th min 50 yard hail mary when an option would be to get it to Andy, (if Andy is even playing at that stage of the match) Keep mayo backs on the back foot and makes sure that they stay there and not marauding up and taking scores. This is going to be a cracker of a game and I hope it deletes the memory of the crapfest that was the Galway game. So how to beat Tipp?

Our strength is running and the game will be set up for that. It's certainly not a game I would take lightly, they have quality players that can hurt teams when on form and a manager who knows a thing or two. I won't be looking too much into recent poor form. It's proper championship football again.
