Today I did some detailing...

We have the "Today I Did Something To My Car" thread out in the main forum, and a lot of the posts on it pertain to detailing.
I thought it would be a good idea to give our various detailing activities a thread in their proper home.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Today ( ahem, last night really!), I snow foamed the car
Wasn't able to follow through and wash it properly as my back went, but couldn't believe how well it looked this morning!
In fairness I have a fair bit of LSP on it, but there was ten days worth of road film and tree sap on it.

Well impressed.

That's the Pro Nav screen, the standard one is much smaller. Pro Nav can be retrofitted on the F10/F11 these days for about €900.

Yeah I thought it was the wider screen. That's just the screen change though isn't it? The controller and system are still cic and just use the wider screen? Is an nbt upgrade much more now? I remember pricing it a few years ago for her car, think it was around 2k.

No the wider screen came with "pro nav" extra and that included sat nav, 20gb hard drive, DVD player etc.

You can get it retrofitted for about €1k now but on the 12/131 models I think with NBT it's more like €2k.

TBH I wouldn't drive an F10 without it, as the smaller screen looks crap as all the plastic either side makes it look worse.

The cic came with pro-nav too it's just the bigger screen and conecrivity but you could also have nav on the smaller screen with cic. Nbt came in 2013 which was a new module but you could also have it with a smaller screen and wide screen too.

No the entire controller is changed too as the Pro Nav has an internal 20GB hard drive. Depending on the year of the car you also get the new NBT version of iDRIVE for the F10 that was available from 2012/2013 which replaced the older CIC system. I'm not sure if the NBT2 system in the current G30 can be retrofitted to the older F10 though.

Had a free afternoon so gave the golf a quick decontamination wash and a coat of Ultraglym Ultra HD Wax.

Can't take any credit for this unfortunately. Put my car in for a paint correction and a ceramic coat with DnD Detailing - Fantastic work by the lads. Special mention to Foxhole Norman who is an absolute pleasure to deal with

Long time no detailing, but finally getting a grip on the new house and able to give the car a bit of a respectable clean.

And then....

Can fog lights (spot lights) be installed on a car that doesn't already have them?

If the answer is yes would it be an expensive job.

You can, depends on if you want original type that come from factory or after market ones.

It usually isn't worth doing

Thanks for your reply. Ya I only want them for appearance sake, so it probably wouldnt be worth it, curiosity was just getting the better of me.

Yes they can. I've done it with a car before. What car is it? Some manufacturers already have the loom installed, just tied up, in that all you need to do is install the switch and connect up the lights.

Thought I'd give this little clio I picked up yesterday a good aul shcrub as it looked a right state, I wouldn't be surprised if it hadn't been washed or hoovered in at least a year or 2, came up really well and for an 05 car for 500quid with 59k miles, a new tb and wp, 7 months nct and 2 months tax it was definitely a steal, engine was definitely well serviced and now she looks very presentable

Haven't been at much myself with my car but picked up some new headlights today for it and coated them with Gtechniq's Detailer only Crystal Serum Ultra to mitigate as much of the usual BMW headlight fogging from UV and wash damage.

Cleaned the windows and the wheels the other day. I didn't realize the windows were so dirty, it's nice to have a clear view now. Car looks much cleaner when the wheels are done.

Itching to wash the car properly but at least it looks fairly clean for now.

Been leaving my windows down when we had the good weather, the inside of the car is covered in dust must tackle it tomorrow. Picked up a bottle of Enigma AIO. Excepting good things from it, if the rest of the Angelwax range is anything to go by especially the Enigma wax
